CLASS RANKING
RANKING OF STUDENTS
The ranking of students shall be based on the student’s final Grade Point Average (GPA). The GPA shall be defined as the total quality points divided by the number of credits pursued. All averages shall be computed to four (4) decimal places.
HONOR STUDENTS
To be eligible to compete for scholastic honors in a particular school in the Vernon Parish School System, a student must have been registered in that school for the final semester of his/her senior year (90 days). Should the student fail to register during the first ten (10) days of the spring semester because of personal illness or illness in the family, this fact must be substantiated by a doctor's certificate. The high school average of all final grades is used in determining the honor students. In determining who shall be the honor students in the graduating class, the following procedure shall be followed: All subjects in which credit was received shall be listed in the transcript sent to the Louisiana Department of Education. The accumulative record card shall be used as a basis for determining who will be the honor students.

The final grades of all subjects listed on the transcripts must be used in securing the averages, as specified in the grading procedure. Partial unit subjects shall bear proportionate credit.
Public recognition should be given at commencement exercises to the honor students of the class. Valedictorians and salutatorians shall not be designated.
