REPORT CARDS
It is the policy of the Vernon Parish School Board that reports concerning student progress shall be made to the parent or legal guardian of all students on a regularly scheduled basis. Individual schools shall make additional reports to the parent or legal guardian of a student when, in the opinion of the principal and professional staff members, the situation warrants such reports. Such situations may include, but are not limited to, outstanding academic achievement, outstanding citizenship, poor academic performance and continuing inappropriate behavior.
Report cards shall be sent home for the parent's signature at the end of each six-weeks grading period. Schools are encouraged to set up parent-teacher conferences. At least one such conference is to be scheduled per semester; preferably during the 2nd and 5th six-weeks periods. Teachers should evaluate the work of the students frequently throughout each marking period. A teacher is to have at least one recorded grade for each student during each week of school. This grade is to be based on tests, class participation, homework, reports, laboratory experiments, themes, etc. At the end of each six-weeks, a teacher may give a six-weeks' test. All of the student's work during the six-weeks is to be taken into consideration to arrive at the six-weeks grade.
If a student is in danger of receiving an F in any six-weeks grading period, the parents are to be informed by the teacher prior to the reporting period and immediately upon the teacher's realization that such a grade is probable. Parents may be informed by telephone or letter. The parent should be asked if a conference is desired and must be accorded one if so requested. Teachers are to keep a record of this notification and date.
