THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION, OCTOBER 19, 1999, AT, 9:00 A.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT PARKER CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Richard Schwartz, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Philip Gunn.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mark Smith.

 

Superintendent Schwartz read the attached call notice.

On motion of , seconded by Philip Gunn, seconded by C.A. Hughes, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of October 12, 1999.

 

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of C.A. Hughes, seconded by Kim Reese, the Board voted to approve the attached list of resignations.

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by Jane Holton, the Board voted to approve the attached sabbatical leave request.

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by Murphy O'Banion the Board voted to approve the attached list of employee transfers.

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Murphy O'Banion, seconded by Betty Westerchil, the Board voted to approve the attached list of new employees.

Mr. Lonnie Bewley, Bonding Attorney for the Vernon Parish School Board recommended a resolution authorizing the sale and issuance of certificates of indebtedness for $2,000,000.00.  Mr. Bewley negotiated for quotes on interest rates from three banks, Bank One, Merchants and Farmers Bank, and Sabine State Bank and recommended that the Board secure the loan through Merchants and Farmers Bank.

 

On motion of A.C. Dowden, Jr., seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the resolution, as presented.

On motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

                                                                               R E S O L U T I O N

 

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their deepest sympathies to Mrs. Gatha Wills, bus operator at Hicks School, in the recent death of her father, Mr. Benjamin Hagan, of Hicks; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hagan was a well-respected member of the community and a great supporter of Hicks School and its basketball program and he will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and his many friends;

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board does, hereby, adopt this memorial resolution and requests that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Wills and her family at this time of bereavement.

 

There being no further business, on motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Philip Gunn,  the Board voted to adjourn.
