THE PARISH BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 1994, IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA PRESIDENT WILLIAMS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. Mark Smith, Ward One.
The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. Gerald Burns, Ward One.
Superintendent Hinson read the attached Call Notice:

On motion of Mr. Porter, seconded by Mr. Smith, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of January 6, 1994.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Arvil Harvey, the Board voted to accept the attached list of resignations:

On motion of Mr. McKee, seconded by Mr. O'Banion, the Board voted to approve the attached list of new employees:

On motion of Mr. McRae, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to approve the attached employee transfers:

Superintendent Hinson and the Board recognized the following teachers for being selected as recipients of a Quality Math and Science Fund grant:
Gloria Orgain, South Polk Elementary
Judith Willis, Anacoco Elem
Myra Calhoun, Anacoco Elem
Betty Richard, Pickering Elem
Each recipient shall receive $500.00 for use in the classroom.
Mrs. Vickie Harter and Mrs. Barbara Mixon, teachers from South Polk Elementary, addressed the Board relative to their VIGIL grant. Mrs. Harter, regular education teacher and Mrs. Mixon, special education teacher, are using VIGIL funds to incorporate a new 2nd grade math teaching concept call touch math.
On motion of Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to accept the policy changes and additions recently passed by the Louisiana Legislature.
On motion of Mrs. Westerchil, seconded by Mr. B.R. Harvey, the Board voted to accept the appointed Board Member committee list presented by President Williams.

On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to make an addition to the wording of the millage tax election relative to Pickering School District No. 142 to read Pickering School District (Ward Four) No. 142.
Superintendent Hinson asked Doris Maricle, Leesville Leader reporter to emphasize that the March 26, 1994 Millage Tax election is a renewal of taxes and not additional taxes.
On motion of Mr. B.R. Harvey, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board do hereby express their heartfelt condolences to Mr. Jerome Maricle, Evans High School teacher and coach, in the recent death of his grandmother, Mrs. Katie Maricle, of Pitkin,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board request that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mr. Maricle and his family.
Mr. Gunn expressed his thanks to the Board, Superintendent Hinson and Central Office staff for the visits, flowers and cards during his recent surgery and hospital stay.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mrs. Westerchil, the Board voted to resolve itself into a claims committee and approve the claims.
On motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. McRae, the Board voted to authorize the President and Secretary to pay claims as approved by the claims committee.
There being no further business, on motion of Mr. B.R. Harvey, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to adjourn.
