THE PARISH BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON THURSDAY, MAY 6, 1993 AT 10:00 A.M. IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA PRESIDENT WESTERCHIL CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. Philip Gunn, Ward One.
The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. Arvil Harvey, Ward Three.
On motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Arvil Harvey, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of April 20, 1993.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to accept the attached list of resignations:

On motion of Mr. McKee, seconded by Mr. O'Banion, the Board voted to approve the attached list of sabbatical leave requests:

At this time Superintendent Hinson and the Board recognized the following groups of students and presented each one with a Superintendents Certificate:

State Social Studies Fair
State Science Fair
State FBLA
State FHA
State Health Occupations Students of America
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to open bids received the for the sale of a used 1974 maintenance truck.

On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to accept the high bid of $125.00 for the sale of the maintenance truck.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Arvil Harvey, the Board voted to advertise for bids for a 1993 3/4 ton utility maintenance truck. Bids to be received June 1, 1993.
On motion of Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to advertise for proposals for a consulting building planner/developer for the development of a long range expansion of facilities in the Leesville School District. Proposals to be received June 1, 1993.
On motion of Mr. McKee, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to advertise for applications for a Principal
for Rosepine High School for 1993-94.
On motion of Mr. McRae, seconded by Mrs. Williams, the Board voted to advertise for a Principal for Hicks High Schoolfor 1993-94.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. McRae, the Board voted to advertise for bids for garbage and trash collection for the Vernon Parish School system. Bids to be received June 1, 1993.
On motion of Mr. Arvil Harvey, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to change the first meeting of June to June 1, 1993 at 10:00 a.m.
Superintendent Hinson announced that Louisiana School Nurse Day was today. On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to commend and congratulate the school nurses for outstanding job performances.
President Westerchil announced that the Ward Three Maintenance Tax renewal passed on Saturday, May 1, 1993.
On motion of Mr. Arvil Harvey, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to thank the voters of Ward Three for the success of the tax renewal which passed with an 82%.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their heartfelt to Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Harvey in the recent death of Mrs. Harvey's brother, Mr. Nathan Lawrence,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board request that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey along with sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Lawrence.
Superintendent Hinson announced that the 1993 School Tours have begun and reminded members to attend.
There being no further business, on motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Smith the Board voted to adjourn until May 11, 1993 at 5:00 p.m.
