THE PARISH BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION ON JUNE 9, 1992, AT 5:00 P.M. IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 201 Belview Road, Leesville, LA President McRae called the meeting to order and on roll call the following members were present:

Also present was Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Mrs. Carolyn Williams, Ward Two, Hornbeck.
The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. Benard McKee, Ward Seven.
Superintendent Hinson read the attached Call Notice:

On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of June 4, 1992.
On motion of Mr. Porter, seconded by Mr. Smith, the Board voted to accept the attached list resignations:

On motion of Mr. Porter, seconded by Mrs. Williams, the Board voted to approve the attached list of leave without pay requests:

On motion of Mrs. Williams, seconded by Mrs. Westerchil, the Board voted to approve the attached list of sabbatical leave requests:

On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to name the attached list of new employees:

On motion of Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Arvil Harvey, the Board voted to approve the attached list of transfers:

Mr. B.R. Harvey requested that a letter of appreciation be sent to those persons who made application and were tested for the Sales Tax Clerk/Receptionist position.
At this time Mrs. Pat Crawford, Supervisor of Vocational Education, presented a video tape of vocational education courses offered in Vernon Parish schools. Mrs. Crawford also presented a copy of this tape to Col. Tucker for Fort Polk.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to approve the IDEA 101 and Preschool Budget for 1992-93 as presented by Mrs. Jackie Curtis.
Mr. Joe Pope and Mr. Roland Booty, Curriculum Coordinators, gave a report on recent CAT tests scores for Vernon Parish Schools. They emphasized that tests scores are the highest composite scores to date for Vernon Parish students.
On motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to extend their congratulations to all school employees, students and parents for the outstanding scores on the CAT tests.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. McKee, seconded by Mr. Smith, the Board voted to approve the Personnel Evaluation Plan for 1992-93 as presented by Dr. Monk at the June 4, 1992 meeting.

On motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to approve a loan from Title II '92 in the amount of Mr. $5,000.00.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Smith, the Board voted to name Barney Wilson as Principal of Vernon Elementary.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mrs. Westerchil, the Board voted to assign Mr. Wilson to a one year contract as Principal at Vernon Elementary.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mrs. Williams, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to name Mr. Roger Whatley as Principal of Hornbeck High School.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mrs. Williams, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to assign Mr. Whatley to a one year contract as Principal of Hornbeck High School.
On recommendation of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to advertise for applications for Assistant Principals at the following schools:
LEESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL
VERNON ELEMENTARY
WEST LEESVILLE ELEMENTARY
EAST LEESVILLE ELEMENTARY
HORNBECK SCHOOL
On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to advertise for applicants for Assistant Principal at Polk Elementary and to authorize the Superintendent to make this position assignment to either North Polk Elementary or South Polk Elementary. Applications are due by July 2, 1992 by 3:30 p.m.
Superintendent Hinson stated that the 4th of July will fall on Saturday and that if the Board had no objection, the Central Office and schools will close on Friday, July 3, 1992, as has been the practice when the 4th falls on a Saturday or Sunday. There was no objection.
On motion of Mrs. Westerchil, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to convey their heartfelt sympathies to the family of Dr. J.O. McCrery who recently passed away,
WHEREAS, Dr. McCrery was a great supporter of Vernon Parish Schools and rendered eye care for many students of Vernon Parish through the Lions Club,
WHEREAS, Dr. McCrery was the father of Congressman Jim McCrery, former teacher at Evans High School,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board wishes to send a copy of this memorial resolution to Congressman McCrery and Mrs. McCrery along with sincere condolences from this Board.
On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to resolve itself into a claims committee and approve the claims.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Arvil Harvey, the Board voted to authorize the President and Secretary to pay claims as approved by the claims committee.
There being no further business, on motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to adjourn.
