THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1991 AT 10:00 A.M. IN the Board Room of the Administration Building, 201 Belview Road, Leesville, LA Vice President McRae called the meeting to order and on roll call the following members were present:

There was also present Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. Arvil Harvey, Ward Three.
The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. Murphy O'Banion, Ward Four.
Superintendent Hinson read the attached call notice:

On motion of Mr. Arvil Harvey, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of October 3, 1991.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mrs. Williams, the Board voted to approve the attached list of resignations:

On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. Porter, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to make the following staff transfers:
Mr. Joe Pope From Supervisor of Transportation and Supervisor of Instruction to Coordinator of Curriculum (grades 7-12) and Supervisor of Instruction: Level II
Richard Reese Will remain Pre-school Coordinator and coordinator of Drug Education, and will add Supervisor of Transportation: Level II
Superintendent Hinson stated that Mr. Pope's transfer is lateral and will not involve a salary change. He further stated that Mr. Reese's salary will change from a 1.6 index to a 1.625 index.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Dowden, the Board voted to name the attached list of new employees:

At this time Superintendent Hinson called on the applicants for the position of Curriculum Coordinator. There were:

Superintendent Hinson stated that he will make a recommendation to the Board on November 7, 1991.
Jeanette Moses, Supervisor, presented to the Board copies of all Vernon Parish report cards. Miss Moses gave a brief overview of each grade level report card.
On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mr. Smith, the Board voted to approve the following loans:
a. Migrant 92 $ 8,000.00
b. Headstart 92 10,000.00
c. 8 G A Great Beginning $ 5,000.00
d. Title VII 91-92 8,000.00
e. 94-142 92 8,000.00
On motion of Mr. B.R. Harvey, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to advertise for bids for the sale of pine timber in Ward Five (the ten acre plot at the Old Gravel Hill School). Bids to be received November 7, 1991, at 10:00 a.m.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Dowden, the Board voted to award the Pickering Elementary playground equipment bids to the low bidder, Diversified Recreation Company in all three categories.
On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to express the Board's appreciation to the Pilot Club of Leesville and to Walmart of Leesville for their contributions for playground equipment for the Vernon Parish Preschool Center.
On motion of Mr. Arvil Harvey, seconded by Mr. Porter, the Board voted to thank the Agriculture Teachers in Vernon Parish for the excellent exhibits at the West Louisiana Forestry Festival.
On motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board learned with grief and sadness of the recent death of Mrs. Kathy Grant, lunchroom technician, at West Leesville Elementary,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Grant was a loyal and faithful employee and she will be missed by her friends and students at West Leesville Elementary,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board request that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Grant's family along with sincere and heartfelt condolences and sympathy from this Board.
On motion of Mr Dowden, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sorrow and condolences to Mrs. Mary Eady, teacher at Anacoco High School, in the loss of her husband, Mr. Charles Eady,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the members of this Board do hereby request that a copy of this memorial resolution be to Mrs. Eady.
On motion of Mr Dowden, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to resolve itself into a claims committee and approve the claims.
On motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Smith, the Board voted to authorize the President and Secretary to pay claims as approved by the claims committee.
There being no further business, on motion of Mr. B.R. Harvey, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to adjourn.
