August 8, 1991

 

THE PARISH BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION ON AUGUST 8, 1991, in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 20l Belview Road, Leesville, President Gunn called the meeting to order and on roll call the following members were present:

There was also present Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. McRae, Wards 6 & 8.

 

The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. McKee, Ward 7.

 

On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Smith, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of August 6, 1991.

 

On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to accept the attached list of resignations:

On motion of Mr. Porter, seconded by Mrs. Williams, the Board voted to approve the attached request for Sabbatical Leave:

On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mrs. Westerchil, the Board voted to approve the attached list of school

employee transfers:

Mrs. Shirley Holt, Supervisor, gave an overview of a workshop she presented to teachers entitled "Classroom Management and Assertive Discipline Strategies".

 

Mrs. Sherry Paris, Supervisor, gave an overview of a workshop she will present to teachers entitled "The Writing Process".

 

On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. Porter, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to authorize the pursuit of alternative funding and progressive funding from the state and the federal government during the transition and realignment at Fort Polk.

 

Discussion was opened concerning the employment of a Curriculum Coordinator, Level II.  After the discussion, it was decided that Superintendent Hinson would meet with  the Principals' Association  to get their input and opinions as to the curriculum position level and title, then Mr. Hinson would report to Mrs. Williams, Chairperson of the Curriculum, and the committee.  Mrs. Williams suggested that Superintendent Hinson and Assistant Superintendent Monk draw up two job descriptions for review by the Board.

 

Mr. Vic Smith, Mayor of New Llano, thanked the Board on behalf of the citizens for the upgrading and school plant improvements at Vernon Elementary.

 

There being no further business, on motion of Mr. McRae, seconded by Mr. O'Banion, the Board voted to adjourn.
