THE PARISH BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA, CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON AUGUST 2, 1990, AT 10:00 A.M. IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 201 Belview Road, Leesville, LA President Harvey called the meeting to order and on roll call the following members:

There was also present Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. Wallace McRae, Ward Six and Eight.
The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. Benard McKee, Ward Seven.
On motion of Mr. Parker, seconded by Mr. Baggs, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of July 17, 1990.
On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to the Board voted to accept the attached list of resignations:

On motion of Mr. Parker, seconded by Mr. Hughes, the Board voted to name the following new employees:
Sharon Freeman, Cook, Anacoco
Ed Kenebrew, Bus Driver, Ward One
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to open the bids received for bread:

On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. McKee, seconded by Mr. Hughes, the Board voted to take under advisement the bids received for bread.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to approve the following loans from General Fund:

Chapter I 10,000.00
Migrant 7,000.00
94-142 Disc 5,000.00
Headstart 91 800.00
Superintendent Hinson reported that the 588th Division of Fort Polk is in the process of construction of a new playground for South Polk Elementary. Col. Davis reported that hopefully the playground will be finished by the beginning of school.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. Goins, seconded by Mr. McRae, the Board voted to furnish the fuel needed for the heavy equipment used by Fort Polk to construct the South Polk Elementary playground.
Superintendent Hinson reported that Boise Cascade has donated 1,000 yards of dirt for the playground at Polk Elementary.
Mr. O'Banion addressed the Board relative to the Governor and Legislature not funding the approved pay raise for support personnel. It was reported that the Governor has indicated that local boards should fund this raise.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to authorize the Superintendent to write Governor Buddy Roemer and area legislators informing them that local Boards have suffered tremendous budget cuts and therefore cannot fund a pay raise for these deserving employees. The Board requested that the Governor's office give direction in how this pay raise can be funded.
Superintendent Hinson discussed the state required bus inspections.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by the entire Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wright, Jr., in the recent death of his father, Mr. Harold Wright, Sr.,
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright is a former bus operator of Vernon Parish and Mrs. Wright is a secretary for the Central Office,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board request that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to the Wright family.
There being no further business, on motion of Mr. Baggs, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to adjourn until Tuesday, August 7, 1990.
