June 12, 1990

 

THE PARISH BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION ON JUNE 12, 1990 in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 201 Belview Road, Leesville, LA  President Harvey called the meeting to order and on roll call the following members were present:

PHILIP GUNN, VICE PRESIDENT

C.A. HUGHES

BENARD MCKEE

There was also present Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. Murphy O'Banion, Ward Four.

 

The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. Wallace McRae, Wards Six and Eight.

 

Superintendent Hinson read the attached call notice.

 

On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. McKee, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of June 7, 1990.

 

On motion of Mr. B.R. Harvey, seconded by Mr. O'Banion, the Board voted to rescind a resignation submitted by Mrs. Tracy Smith, Pitkin High School.

 

On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Goins, the board voted to accept the list of resignations:

On motion of Mr. Parker, seconded by Mr. Hughes, the Board voted to name the attached list of new employees:

At this time Superintendent Hinson recognized Mr. Jimmy Funderburk, Principal of Simpson High School.  Mr. Funderburk accepted plaques and certificates for the boys baseball team at Simpson High School.  The team participated in the state playoff quarter finals.  Mr. McRae, Board Member, presented the plaques to Mr. Funderburk.

 

Dr. Larry Monk, Assistant Superintendent, presented the Personnel Evaluation Plan for 1990-91.  On recommendation Superintendent Hinson and on motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to adopt the Personnel Evaluation Plan as presented by Dr. Monk.

On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Baggs, the Board voted to advertise for bids for bread for Parish schools.

 

On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to advertise for bids for milk and juice for Parish Schools.

 

Mr. W.W. Parker reported that he had received a copy of HB 777 and HB 686 from Representative John Smith.  These house bills deal with retired teachers cost of living raises and support personnel raises.  The bills were authored by Mr. James Cain and Mr. Smith. 

 

On motion of Mr. Parker, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to thank Representative Smith, Senator Bryan Poston, Representative Cain and Representative Bradley for their efforts in the State legislature for education and especially Vernon Parish educators.

 

On motion of Mr. McKee, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to convey their heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family of Mr. Lloyd Johnson, retired bus operator who recently passed away,

                WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was a loyal and dedicated employee of this school system,

                THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board request that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent the family of Mr. Johnson.

 

On motion of Mr. Goins, seconded by Mr. Hughes, the Board voted to resolve itself into a claims committee and approve the claims.

 

On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. O'Banion, the Board voted to pay claims as approved by the claims committee.

 

There being no further business, on motion of Mr. Baggs, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to adjourn.
