THE PARISH BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON JUNE 7, 1990, AT 10:00 A.M. in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 201 Belview Road, Leesville, LA President Harvey called the meeting to order and on roll call the following members were present:

There was also present Mr. Sammy L. Hinson, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. C.A. Hughes, Ward One.
The pledge of allegiance was led by Mr. Benard McKee.
On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mr. Parker, the board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of May 17, 1990.
At this time the Superintendent and Board recognized the attached list of outstanding students:

Superintendent Hinson recognized Mr. Dick Myers, Boise Cascade Area Manager. Boise Cascade recently donated 2,000 yards of dirt for work at Rosepine and $700.00 to Evans and Pitkin, each, for library books. Mr. Myers was presented a certificate from Mr. McKee, Mr. Arvil Harvey and Mr. B.R. Harvey in appreciation for the donations to these schools.
On motion of Mr. Goins, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to accept the attached list of resignations:

On motion of Mr. McKee, seconded by Mr. McRae, the Board voted to name the following new employees:
Jeannie Causey, janitor, Hicks
Shelton Hickerson, custodian, Leesville High
Evon Wilson, Hornbeck, custodian
Nola Fay Johnson, Polk, cook
On motion of Mr. Baggs, seconded by Mr. Parker, the Board voted to approve the attached list of requests for Sabbatical Leaves:

On motion of Mr. Dowden, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the board voted to approve a leave without pay request for Mr. Wendel Wellman, 1-14-91 to 1-14-92.
Superintendent Hinson gave a report on Progress Profiles, a Louisiana Department of Education instrument to update and keep the public aware of the happenings and progress in Louisiana Schools.
Dr. Larry Monk, Assistant Superintendent, gave a brief overview of LEAP testing.
Jeanette Moses, Supervisor, addressed the board and reviewed Vernon Parish LEAP tests scores.

On motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by the Board, the voted to commend all Vernon Parish teachers, students and administrators for the excellent scores on state academic testing.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Baggs, the Board voted to approve a loan of $5,000.00 to Title VII from General Fund.
On recommendation of Bobby Moss, Purchasing Agent, and on motion of Mr. Parker, seconded by Mr. Hughes, the Board voted to accept general supply bids as specified on the attached list:

On motion of Mr. Harvey, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to advertise the Vernon Parish School Board Food Services Price Quotation Calendar.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Baggs, the Board voted to advertise for bids for athletic equipment for Parish schools.
On motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Harvey, the Board voted to se the July school board meetings for July 10, 1990 and July 17, 1990 at 10:00 a.m.
On motion of Mr. Hughes, seconded by Mr. Burns, the Board voted to receive roofing material bids for Leesville High School annex by committee on July 5, 1990 at 10:00 a.m.
On motion of Mr. Gunn, seconded by Mr. Goins, the Board voted to advertise for bids for general contractor for Leesville High School renovations and additions.
On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Gunn, the Board voted to name the attached list Central Office staff, principals and assistant principals.

On recommendation of Superintendent Hinson, and on motion of Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Dowden, the Board voted to name the attached list of contractual employees for a two contract.

On motion of Mr. McRae, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board do hereby wish to convey their heartfelt sympathies to Mrs. Dorothy Underwood, custodian at Hicks High School, in the recent death of her father Mr. Garwood Busby,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board request that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Underwood along with condolences from this Board.
On motion of Mr. Harvey, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board learned with grief and sadness of the recent death of Brother Hall Prewitt, retired Baptist minister from the Evans Community,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board request that a copy of this memorial resolution along with the Board's condolences to Mrs. Prewitt and her family.
There being no further business, on motion of O'Banion, seconded by Mr. Dowden, the Board voted to adjourn until June 12, 1990 at 5:00 p.m.
