Item #14: Recognition of Employee of the Month
Director of Finance, Tim Ward and Scott Walker with Taylor and Sons Insurance introduced the Employee of the Month, Felicia Rushing to the Board. Ms. Rushing is the Cafeteria Manager at Parkway Elementary. Ian McDonald, Assistant Principal at Parkway, thanked Ms. Rushing for the great job she does maintaining the cafeteria at their school and being a great manager to her cooks.

The Athletic Committee meeting was held at 9:30 am on 5-10-22. Vernon L. Travis, Jr. gave an update to the Board on the athletic updates discussed during the meeting by Hub Jordan, Child Welfare Director.

Item #17: ` Superintendent’s Remarks
Superintendent James Williams welcomed all to the meeting and asked Col. Samuel P. Smith, Jr. for an update at Fort Polk.
Col. Smith reminded the Board of 3 upcoming events:
l. Partnership Award Ceremony on May 19th @ Woodville Hall, Building 350; 6661 Warrior Trail, Fort Polk, LA 71459
2. The Memorial Day Ceremony, May 26th 1100 Warrior Memorial Park (Louisiana Ave. and Entrance Rd.)
3. Plans are still being made for a summer school program at Fort Polk
Col. Smith also informed the Board that several young men from Simpson School were recruited into the Army.
Mr. Williams reminded the Board that this is Nurse Appreciation week and thanked all our nurses who work so diligently to take care of our students and staff. We have a total of 15 nurses in our schools.
Mr. Williams asked Director of Curriculum to give the Board an update on the Accelerate Summer Camp 2022 Pilot Program for UIR Schools and Feeder Schools May 23 through June 23. The Board was presented with materials explaining the accelerate summer camp, 7-12 credit recovery program (5-31-22/6-2-22, 6-6-22/6-9-22 and
6-13-22/6-16-22, and theVPSB 2022 summer school opportunities.
Item #18: Memorial Resolutions
On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Donna Faye Maricle Phillips who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Phillips was the Mother of Mark Phillips, graduate of Leesville High School, mother-in-law of Tammie Phillips, former Principal at Leesville High School, and grandmother of former student worker, Madelyn Phillips; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Phillips was a resident of Vernon Parish; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
