THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT -ANGIE DAVIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

Item #1: Approval of Minutes
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by David Detz, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 6, 2018 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Item #2: Approval of Budget Revisions for 2018-2019
On motion of Vernon Travis, Jr., seconded by Shad Stewart, the Board voted to approve the General Operating Budget Revisions for 2018-2019.
Item #3: Contract Approval for Curriculum Supervisor:
On motion of Jackie Self, seconded by Gerald Cooley, the Board voted to approve a contract for the new Curriculum Supervisor, Leigh Lansdale replacing retired supervisor, Leslie Koenck.
Item # 4: Pickering High School Principal Position:
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to advertise for a vacant principal position a Pickering High School.
Item #5: Headstart Policies/Procedures:
On motion of Jim Seaman, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to accept the Headstart Policies/Procedures presented at the December 6th meeting.
Item #6: Vernon Parish School Board Policy Changes
On motion of David Detz, seconded by Shad Stewart, the Board voted to approve the following Vernon Parish School Board policies:
File: GBN- Dismissal of Employees/Employee Discipline
GBK - Employee Discipline
DJE - Purchasing
Item #7: Personnel Changes
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
Item #8: Authorization to Pay Claims
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
Item #9: Employee of the Month
Tim Ward introduced Jeff Taylor with Taylor and Sons insurance to present Rebecca Harmon with a plaque for outstanding teaching skills in the classroom. Ms. Harmon is a 2nd grade teacher at West Leesville Elementary.
Item #10: Recognition of “A” Performing Schools
Curriculum Directors, Anne Smith and Renita Page recognized the “A” performing schools and presented the Principals with large banners to hang in their school and explained to the Board how they achieved this honor.Vernon Parish has eleven (11) schools that qualified. They are: Anacoco Elementary, Anacoco High, Evans High, Hicks High, Hornbeck High, Pickering Elementary, Pitkin High, Rosepine Elementary, Rosepine High, and Simpson High.
Item #:11 Ag Day Report
Assistant Superintendent, Mike Kay introduced Rusty Bailes and T. Berry Porter, members of the Vernon Parish Cattleman’s association to our visitors. Mr. Bailes reported about programs provided for Vernon Parish students through the Cattleman’s association which is the only parish AG program in the State working with students. It teaches about being ranchers, farmers, and transportation of cattle, vet visits, feeding, and the everyday process of running a farm or a ranch. We have 120 students enrolled in this program which provides (6) $500.00 scholarships. Mr. T. Berry Porter provides the location for this class on his farm/ranch. The students arrive at 8:00 am and spend the day learning how the process works.
Item #11: Recognition of outgoing/incoming Board President and District Eight Member
Mr. James Williams, Superintendent thanked the outgoing President, Angie Davis and welcomed our incoming President, Vernon L. Travis, Jr. He also thanked Mr. Gerald Cooley for his outstanding representation of district (8) as a Board Member. Superintendent Williams introduced our new district (8) member, Lisa Thompson and welcomed her.

On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Linda Martinez who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Martinez was a retired teacher; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Martinez was the Mother of Austin Grant Cox a teacher at Simpson High School; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Martinez was a resident of Vernon Parish; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

WHEREAS, Ms. Bealer was the Mother of Charles Bealer retired teacher, Mother-in-law of Brenda Bealer, retired Supervisor, Amanda Bealer a teacher at East Leesville Elementary and the wife of Michael Bealer, Tax Assessor , Grandson of Ms. Claire Bealer; now

WHEREAS, Ms. Hartwell was the Mother of Alice Henry, retired teacher and Annie Norris custodian at Leesville High School, two sisters, Ada Thomas retired cook and Mary Louise Henry a part time employee and nephew, Leon Jackson custodian at West Leesville Elementary; now

WHEREAS, Mr. West was a resident of Vernon Parish; now
