THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT ANGIE DAVIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

Item #1: June 7, 2018 Minutes
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Jackie Self, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the June 7, 2018 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Item #2: Employee Retirements
On motion of Shad Steward, seconded by Jim Seaman, the Board voted to accept employment retirements.
Item #3: Resolution for Rapides Foundation
On motion of Jackie Self, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to adopt a resolution for Rapides Foundation 2018-2019 Effective Schools Grant and Healthy Behaviors School Partnership Grant:
STATE OF LOUISIANA
PARISH OF VERNON
On the twelfth day of June, 2018, at a meeting of the School Board of Vernon Parish in the city of Leesville, a quorum of Board Members present, the following action was taken: It was duly moved and seconded that the following resolution be adopted:
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the School Board of Vernon Parish does hereby authorize the Superintendent, on terms and conditions he/she may deem advisable, to negotiate and execute the Effective Schools Grant and Healthy Behaviors School Partnership Grant from the Rapides Foundation on behalf of the School Board named herein, and further hereby authorize the Superintendent and grant the power and authority to do all things necessary to implement, maintain, amend or renew said grants/documents.
The above Resolution was passed by a majority of those present and voting in accordance with the by-laws and policies of the said Board.
I certity that the above and foregoing constitutes a true and correct record of the resolution adopted by the Vernon Parish School Board, Leesville, Louisiana at its regular meeting held on the twelfth day of June, 2018.
Item #4: West Leesville Elementary Principal Advertisement
On motion of Jim Seaman, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to advertise for a promotional principal position at West Leesville Elementary School.
Item #5: Pitkin High School Principal Advertisement
On motion of Shad Stewart, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to advertise for a promotional principal position at Pitkin High School.
Item #6: Anacoco Elementary School Principal Advertisement
On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by Jackie Self, the Board voted to advertise for a non-promotional principal position at Anacoco Elementary School
Item # 7: Budget Changes related to personnel changes
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
Item #8: Authorization to pay claims
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
Item #9: Energy Conservation Update
Finance Director, Tim Ward gave an update on the savings for the last three years. The total amount of savings for the Vernon Parish School Board is $1,569,815.00.
Item # 10: Report from Transportation Committee Meeting
Jim Seaman, Chairperson for the Transportation Committee reported to the Board on the three topics presented by the Director of Transportation, Tom Neubert. Mr. Neubert informed the committee of the three proposals for 18-19 school yr.
l. Purchasing buses
2. New bus barn facility
3. Hiring a Level 2 or Level 3 mechanic
All three topics were discussed and tabled until the next transportation committee meeting.
Item # 11: Superintendent’s Remarks
Superintendent Williams welcomed everyone to the board meeting. He informed the Board that the Sales Tax Collections for 2017-2018 were completed and asked Finance Director, Tim Ward to report on the collections. Mr. Ward reported collections down 2.8% which is down $320,547.68 from last year. Total Collections for the year were $11,174,658.44 compared to last year’s total of $11,495,206.12. Checks will go out on June 22, 2018.
Mr. Williams thanked everyone for their support and prayers in his family’s time of illness in his family.
Next meeting will be July 12th at 10:00.
Item # 12: Memorial Resolutions
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Geraldine Foster who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Foster was the sister of Doris Welch, a retired paraprofessional at Pickering Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Foster was a resident of Rosepine, LA; and
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of James Cyril Hawthorne who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hawthorne was the Father of Jackie Martin, teacher at Anacoco Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hawthorne was a resident of Vernon Parish; and
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Harold Knippers who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Knippers is the Grandfather of Lindsey Desjardins a teacher at Hornbeck High School; and
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Robert Dean who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dean was a retired custodian at Leesville High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dean was a resident of Vernon Parish; and
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Jackie Self, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
