THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT WOODS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.

The meeting was opened in prayer by Reverend Edgar Evans.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randy Martin.

President Woods welcomed guests to the meeting.

 

On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by David Detz, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the February 7, 2017 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

Curtis Clay presented the Headstart Report and noted that the VPHS 2017-2018 Budget and the VPHS Self Assessment will be on the March 7th Agenda for approval.

 

Vernon Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee met and Mike Kay discussed personnel changes for March.  Mr. Travis noted the declining enrollment and the need to reduce expenditures – again facing reduction in force hopefully through attrition.  No action was required.

 

Superintendent Williams expressed his appreciation to Mrs. Carolyn Bosley for her work with Students of The Year and also to the Anacoco High Girls Basketball Team and Simpson High Boys Basketball Team.  Superintendent Williams noted the Curriculum Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 7th at 9:15.  Jim Seaman also gave an update on the LSBA Conference held last month in New Orleans.

 

On motion of Jackie Self, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Carl Richard Harter who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Harter was the husband of Vickie Harter, counselor at North Polk Elementary School; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Harter was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Jule Clausen who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mrs. Clausen was a retired 4th grade teacher at Simpson High School; and

             WHEREAS, Mrs. Clausen was a longtime resident of Simpson and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Marla Blackmon who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mrs. Blackmon was the wife of Bill Blackmon and the daughter of Cullen and JoAnn Dixon; and

             WHEREAS, Mrs. Blackmon was a resident of Anacoco and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their sympathy to the family of William “Bill” Beavers who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Beavers was a graduate of Leesville High School and an avid supporter of all sports programs in Vernon Parish; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Beavers was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their condolences to the family of Stephen Wright who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was the father-in-law of Mandy Wright, teacher at Leesville High School; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was a resident of Kentucky and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness

 

There being no further business, and on motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
