THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT DETZ CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.

The meeting was opened in prayer by Robert Pynes.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.

 

On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the November 10, 2016 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

 

Renita Page and Anne Smith presented an Accountability Update.  Vernon Parish District Performance Score is 109, this is up 5.7 points from last year.  Vernon Parish is ranked 6th in the state and is the highest public school system in the state.  Vernon Parish has 12 “A” schools and 6 “B” schools and our ACT index is the highest in the state.  Mr. Detz and Superintendent Williams commended teachers, students, parents, and administrators for all their hard work and dedication. 

 

Curtis Clay gave the Headstart Director’s Report and noted that the following policies/procedures will be on the December 6th Agenda for approval:

 

VPHS Grievance Policy, Health Plan Policy, Reduction in Force Policy, Dual Language

Policy and Procedures, Monthly Enrollment Reporting Procedures, Video Surveillance Policy, Classroom Volunteer Minimum Age Policy, Policy for Obtaining Volunteer and Substitutes in Classrooms, Career Opportunity Statement, Employee Discipline Policy, and Tuition Payment Policy.  Mr. Clay also noted that 240 students are enrolled in the Headstart Program.

 

Mr. Travis reported that the Finance Committee met and the Solar Panel discussion was postponed.  Mr. Ward presented an overview of the Revised Budget for 2016-2017 and these revisions will be presented to the Board on December 6th for approval.  There was also discussion on a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the Vernon Parish Police Jury for the development of a 911 database and correction of parish centerline data for Vernon Parish.  This will be presented to the Board on December 6th for approval.

 

Mr. Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and Mr. Kay reviewed personnel changes for December.  The Committee will recommend approval to the Board for the contract of the non-promotional supervisor position and also to advertise for a non-promotional principal position at Rosepine Elementary – this will be added to the December 6th Agenda.

 

Superintendent Williams stated that the mandatory training for Board members would be Tuesday at 11:00AM and that Financial Disclosure Statements were due no later than May 15, 2017.  Superintendent Williams also reminded Board members of the Curriculum Committee meeting on Tuesday, December 6th at 9:00AM. 

                     

On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sincere sympathy to the family of Wallace L. McRae who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. McRae was a former District Eight Board Member with many years of dedicated service and was also the father of Amy Dalme, teacher at Simpson High School and the cousin of Steve Woods, District One Board Member; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. McRae was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Jackie Self, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Doris Bonnette who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Bonnette was the mother of Renee Wilson, retired secretary at the Central Office; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Bonnette was a longtime resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

There being no further business, and on motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
