THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  DISTRICT ONE BOARD MEMBER DOUG BRANDON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.

The meeting was opened in prayer by Vernon Travis.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Vernon Travis.

 

On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the September 1, 2016 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

 

Chad Hagan and Kem Johnson were unable to attend – will re-schedule.

 

On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to receive bids for the track at Pickering High School.  Two bids were received and on motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Jim Seaman, the Board voted to accept the low bid from United Sports System for $393,500 if the bid meets specifications.

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to accept the following retirements:

 

Boles, Darlene, office para/Simpson

Durrett, Eula, sped para/AES

Jackson, Cecelia, sped para/Hornbeck

Phillips, Helen, nurse/CO

 

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to adopt the Consolidated and General Fund Budgets for 2016-2017.

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Robert Pynes, the Board voted to reject all bids for propane – no low bid was received.

 

On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to amend the Agenda to add the re-advertisement for bids for propane for Evans, Hicks and Simpson Schools.  A roll call vote was taken and was unanimous.

 

On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to re-advertise for propane for Evans, Hicks and Simpson Schools.

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve distribution of energy conservation rebates to schools.

 

Randi Gleason reported that the Curriculum Committee had met and Anne Smith presented an update on Grants and student assessment.  Renita Page discussed the revisions to the Pupil Progression Plan and this will be on display at the Central Office.  The Pupil Progression Plan will be placed on the October 11th Agenda for approval.  Lisa Lohman reported on the Digital Literacy Plan – adapting to needs of digital testing.  It was requested that an assessment of resources needed be discussed at the November meeting.  Mrs. Page noted that School Performance Scores should be received in late October or early November. 

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.

 

On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by Sandra Whitlock, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.

 

Superintendent Williams thanked the Curriculum Department and Mrs. Gleason for their hard work and dedication to the students in Vernon Parish.

 

On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of James Gibbs who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Gibbs was the father of Jennifer Gibbs, teacher at Anacoco Elementary School; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Gibbs was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

There being no further business, and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
