THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT DETZ CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Doug Brandon.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Doug Brandon.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 8, 2015 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Mike Kay discussed new/revised VPSB Policies and these policies will be placed on the January 12th Agenda for approval.
On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to name The Leesville Daily Leader as the official journal of the Vernon Parish School Board for 2016.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to authorize the Superintendent to request and sign all Federal Funding, P. L. 81-874 for the Vernon Parish School Board.
Mr. Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed personnel changes for January. Salary stipends at Top Gain Schools were also discussed. Mr. Travis also noted that committees were open for all Board Members and if they wanted to change or add their name to another committee, please let Ms. Bennett know. The Superintendent’s contract extension was also discussed and will be placed on the January 12th Agenda for approval.
Superintendent Williams stated that a Curriculum Committee meeting will be Tuesday, January 12th at 8:45 and a Finance Committee meeting will follow at 9:30. Superintendent Williams also noted that he will be meeting with all principals to discuss their Action Plans.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Coy Myers who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Myers was the father of Theda Doyle, cook at Pitkin High School and the father-in-law of Isaac Nabors, bus driver at Vernon Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Myers was a longtime resident of Oakdale and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to send their condolences to the family of Ruby Youngblood who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Youngblood was the step-mother of Quinda Bennett, secretary at the Central Office and the grandmother of Brandi Bennett, secretary at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Youngblood was a longtime resident of Wheelock, Texas and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sincere sympathy to the family of Dr. Billie McRae who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McRae was a retired Director of Special Education with more than thirty years of dedicated service and was also the grandmother of Millie Ballagh, teacher at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McRae was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Paul Dutton who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dutton was the son of Barbara Dutton, retired teacher at Simpson High and the son-in-law of Callie Toney, secretary at the Central Office; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dutton was a resident of Katy, Texas, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Day-Min and his mother, Misty Marshall who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Day-Min was a third grade student at Simpson High School and they were cousins of Nicole Weatherford, Day-Min’s teacher; and
WHEREAS, Day-Min and Misty were residents of Simpson and they will be greatly missed by their family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of David Detz, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
