THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT BRANDON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Jim Seaman.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jim Seaman.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the September 8, 2015 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Superintendent Williams, Joey Whiddon and Tom Neubert discussed the following revised policies:
School Bus Scheduling and Routing, Student Dress Code, Student Suspension, Student Expulsion – these revisions will be placed on the Agenda for October 6th for approval.
Tim Ward discussed the Safety Action Plan and measures that are being taken to reduce the number of claims. Safety meetings have been scheduled and written training material is available.
Vernon Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed personnel changes for October. Mr. Kay also asked the Committee for approval to advertise for an assistant principal at Anacoco High School and a special education aide specific for Rosepine High. These requests will be placed on the Agenda Tuesday, October 6th for approval.
Superintendent Williams noted that the mandatory Headstart Training for Board Members would begin immediately after the Board meeting today. He also reminded Board members of the Board Training with Jon Guice on Tuesday after the Board meeting. Superintendent Williams noted that Parent-Teacher Conferences would be held next Thursday afternoon at all parish schools. Col. Athey reported that the access gate on Louisiana Avenue would be closed beginning October 17, 2015. He also noted the Grand Opening of the Fort Polk Child, Youth and School Services School Age Center on October 8, 2015 at 3:00PM.
On motion of David Detz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to extend their condolences to the family of Lee Owen Phillips who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Phillips was the husband of Cathy Phillips, cafeteria worker at Evans High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Phillips was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Doris Ann Lollar James who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. James was the mother of Barbara White, bus driver and the grandmother of Dawn Carlock, bus driver and Joni Robinson, teacher all of Pitkin; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. James was a resident of Orange, Texas and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Dorothy Sharp who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Sharp was the mother-in-law of Johnny Martin, custodian at Leesville High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Sharp was a longtime resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Bill Anderson who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson was the husband of Macel Anderson, retired teacher; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Angie Davis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Faye Cooley who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cooley was the mother of Gerald Cooley, District Eight Board Member and the mother-in-law of Sandra Cooley, retired teacher; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cooley was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
