THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT BRANDON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

ABSENT:          NONE

 

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Robert Pynes.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.

 

On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the August 11, 2015 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

 

On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the Pupil Progression Plan.

 

On motion of David Detz, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board approved the Cenergistic Program for Energy Savings.

 

Vernon Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and Mr. Kay discussed the five year position of project teacher/math coach that is fully funded by the Military Grant.  This full-time position consists of two components (1.) 0.5 FTE Project Director for an Education Grant and (2.) 0.5 FTE Mathematics Coach.  The Committee approved this position for recommendation to the full Board on September 8, 2015.  The Committee will also recommend approval of the contract for the Anacoco High School principal on September 8th.

 

Vernon Travis reported that the Finance Committee had met and Mr. Ward discussed the Budget for 2015-2016.  The decrease in overall student enrollment is the main concern although student numbers as of this date have increased slightly over last year.  The Committee is recommending approval of the Consolidated Budget for 2015-2016 on September 8th.

 

Superintendent Williams reminded Board members of the September 8th Board meeting at 5:00PM.  He also stated that he had scheduled meetings with all principals to discuss Action Plans, SLT’s and general plans for the school year.  Colonel Athey reported on deployments and noted that the Commanding General will be recognizing Carolyn Bosley, Principal at Rosepine Elementary School on September 17th for being chosen as Louisiana Elementary Principal of The Year. 

 

On motion of David Detz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O LU T I O N

 

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Brady Pennington who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Pennington was the husband of Peggy Pennington, former teacher at Evans High School; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Pennington was a resident of DeRidder and he will be sadly missed by his family and many friends; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Sandra Underwood who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Underwood was a retired teacher with twenty six years of dedicated service and was the mother-in-law of Lanette Underwood, teacher at Anacoco Elementary; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Underwood was a longtime resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

There being no further business, and on motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
