THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Richard Schwartz.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Richard Schwartz.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the October 14, 2014 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Sandy Gwenn discussed Operation We Care. This is a combined effort of SuddenLink and the Food Bank of Central Louisiana. Vernon Parish Schools have participated in this project for the past several years and will continue to do so.
Superintendent Williams, Mrs. Anne Smith and Mrs. Renita Page discussed the District/School Performance Scores.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to receive the bids to sell used computers. One bid was received from Diversified Recycling in the amount of $750.00 for each computer which totals $5,400.00. On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to accept the bid.
Mr. Clay gave the Headstart Monthly Report and the following policies/procedures will be on the Agenda November13, 2014 for approval.

Vernon Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for November. The Reduction of Personnel Policy was reviewed and it was noted that hire date is not considered when reduction of staff has to be implemented. The salary and stipend formula was also discussed – no VAM scores this year. Stipends will be based on SLT score and Top Gain Schools. No monies will be paid unless mandated by the State. No action was taken.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Cedric Wilson who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson was a former bus driver and was the brother of Cassandra Wilson, Principal at Vernon Middle and Castine Porche, Teacher at Vernon Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their condolences to the family of Ralph Cobbs who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cobbs was the husband of Bernice Cobbs, secretary at Rosepine Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cobbs was a resident of DeRidder and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Travis Othaneil Addison who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Addison was the father of Andy Addison, bus driver at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Addison was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their condolences to the family of Roland S. Mitcham who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mitcham was a former District Three Board Member for eighteen years; and
WHEREAS. Mr. Mitcham was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Bishop Elbert Marbury Sr. who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Marbury was a supporter of Vernon Parish Schools and had numerous children and grandchildren who attended the schools in Vernon parish; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Marbury was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Troy H. Luttgeharm who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Luttgeharm was a graduate of Leesville High School and a faithful supporter of the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Luttgeharm was a resident of Monroe and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their sympathy to the family of Billie Rae Perkins who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS. Mrs. Perkins was a retired bus driver and the mother of Pam Brister, teacher at Evans High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Perkins was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and a loyal supporter of Special Olympics; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Clyde Cloud who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cloud was a school counselor, coach and referee and also secretary for West Central Officials Association; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cloud was a resident of DeRidder and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
