SEPTEMBER 4, 2014

 

THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 AM ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2014, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

ABSENT:           STEVE WOODS, RICHARD SCHWARTZ, COL. T. GLENN MOORE

 

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.

The meeting was opened in prayer by Doug Brandon.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Doug Brandon.

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the August 12, 2014 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

               

Mr. Jimmy Funderburk and Superintendent James Williams discussed new/revised policies.  Approval for the new/revised policies will be placed on the September 9, 2014 Agenda.

 

On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to advertise for Principal at Hornbeck High School.

 

Mr. Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel transactions for September.  Leave Without Pay Policy was discussed-no action taken.

 

Superintendent James Williams and Mrs. Anne Smith discussed developing a plan for teachers and parents with the implementation of higher standards.  Plans are also underway to add a link on the website for additional information and support.

 

Superintendent Williams also reminded Board Members of Ethics Training, Disclosure

 

Forms and Training Hours.  The next Board meeting will be Tuesday, September 9th at 5:00PM with Finance Committee scheduled for 4:15PM.

 

On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Cecil William Richmond who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Richmond was the father of Wilkie Richmond, Principal at Hornbeck High School; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Richmond was a longtime resident of Pitkin and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Betty Causey who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mrs. Causey was the mother of Linda Williams, teacher at Leesville Jr. High School and the mother-in-law of James Williams, Superintendent of Vernon Parish Schools; and

             WHEREAS, Mrs. Causey was a resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

             WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their heartfelt sympathy to the family of James Byron McCain who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. McCain was a retired teacher, counselor, and principal from Rosepine High School with many years of dedicated service; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. McCain was a lifelong resident of Rosepine and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

             WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Robert Kennedy who recently passed away; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Kennedy was a retired custodian at Leesville High School, the brother of Steve Kennedy, retired bus driver and the uncle of Pam Anderson, teacher at East Leesville Elementary School; and

             WHEREAS, Mr. Kennedy was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

             BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

There being no further business, and on motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
