THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. James Williams, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Robert Pynes.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the July 15, 2014 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Mrs. Anne Smith, Elementary Curriculum Director, discussed changes in the Pupil Progression Plan.
Mrs. Renita Page, Secondary Curriculum Director, discussed School/District Performance Scores/Accountability.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to receive bids to sell used bus at Rosepine High School. Bids received as follows:
Bid Sea Farms $527.00
Jeremy Adams $250.00
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to take these bids under advisement.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to advertise for Principal at West Leesville Elementary School.
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to advertise for Assistant Principal at Leesville High School.
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Gerald Cooley, the Board voted to change the October Board Meeting dates to October 9th and October 14th due to a scheduled school holiday on October 2nd.
Vernon Travis reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and Mr. Funderburk discussed the personnel changes for August. There was no other business and no action was taken.
Superintendent Williams gave an update on the Washington DC visit with Fort Polk Progress and Army Personnel and the Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award.
Superintendent Williams also noted the Cafeteria Conversation to be held at North Polk Elementary on August 11th and the Groundbreaking Ceremony for South Polk Elementary School on August 14th. Mr. Travis noted that he attended the LSBA Conference and that there were several policy revisions/additions to be reviewed by the Board. Colonel Moore thanked the Board and Staff for their continued support and dedication to provide the best possible education for all students
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Joshua M. Bursh II who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bursh was the uncle of Samuel Bursh and Isabelle Massart-Bursh, teachers in Vernon Parish Schools; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bursh was a longtime resident of Leesville and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their sympathy to the family of Janis Marie Knapp who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Knapp was the mother of Susie Neubert, retired teacher, the mother-in-law of Tom Neubert, Child Welfare & Attendance Director, and Mike Corley, teacher at Vernon Middle and the grandmother of Tabitha Neubert, former teacher at Leesville High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Knapp was a lifelong resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Joy Nell Hillman who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hillman was a 1992 graduate of Simpson High School and had been a teacher at Simpson for eighteen years; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hillman was the daughter of Jo Ann Hillman, paraprofessional at Simpson High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hillman was a lifelong resident of the Simpson/Hutton area and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of James “Curtis” Lacaze who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lacaze was the father of Anthony Lacaze, custodian at Pitkin High School, Mammie Nolen, retired bus driver and the grandfather of Danna Touchet, custodian at Pitkin High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lacaze was a lifelong resident of Pitkin and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Elizabeth Jeane who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jeane was the grandmother of Kimberleigh Welch, teacher at Vernon Middle School and Michele Goins, teacher at Anacoco High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jeane was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods and Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Robert (R.V.) Bolton who recently passed away;
WHEREAS, Mr. Bolton was an avid supporter of the Vernon Parish Schools and served as a member of the Vernon Parish Youth Association for more than forty years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bolton was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.`
