THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

MEL HARRIS

RICHARD SCHWARTZ

RANDY MARTIN

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.

The meeting was opened in prayer by Mel Harris.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mel Harris.

On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the January 14, 2014 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to advertise to sell used computers.

Mel Harris and Mr. Funderburk reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for February.  Mr. Funderburk discussed the Incentive Pay Scale and stated the Committee was recommending that “D” and “E” (Value Added Stipends) be deleted from the Scale as a result of the State removing the VAM scores for two years.  All teachers will receive stipends based on SLT’s.  On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Richard Schwartz, the Board voted unanimously to accept this recommendation.

Superintendent Self stated that a Finance Committee meeting had been scheduled for Tuesday, February 11^th at 9:15AM.  Superintendent Self also recommended to the Board to change the February 14^th Staff Development Day to a regular school day for students. 

Staff Development Day will be cancelled to allow more instructional time for students.

On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

R E S O L U T I O N

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Pete Godwin who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Godwin was the brother of Mike Godwin, bus driver at West Leesville Elementary School; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Godwin was the brother of Mike Godwin, bus driver at West Leesville Elementary and the brother-in-law of Mary Altenburger, teacher at West Leesville Elementary; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Godwin was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be

greatly missed by his family and friends; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

There being no further business, and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
