THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

ABSENT: RANDI GLEASON, VERNON TRAVIS, MEL HARRIS, COL. MOORE
There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by E. J. Bradshaw.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randy Martin.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Richard Schwartz, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2014 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by Jerry Jeane, the Board voted to accept the bids from A T & T for Internet Service, Data Circuits, PRI Circuits, and Phone Service.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to approve an additional paraprofessional position at Pickering Elementary.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to accept the following retirements:
Williams, Penny, teacher/LHS
Stiles, Kay teacher/RHS
Sweat, Catherine, teacher/Pitkin
Curtis Clay gave the Headstart report and on motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Richard Schwartz, the Board voted to approve the following policies/procedures:
VPHS Program and Planning
VPHS Child Abuse Policy
VPHS Volunteer Minimum Age
VPHS Financial Procedure Manual
VPHS Career Opportunity Statement
VPHS Policy for Conflict Resolution
VPHS Monthly Enrollment Reporting Procedure
VPHS Child Attendance and Tardiness
VPHS Organizational Chart
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Jerry Jeane, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Richard Schwartz, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
Superintendent Self gave an update on St. John the Baptist School Board lawsuit. A hearing is set for January 17th.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Lamote Smith who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was the husband of Nor’Randa Anderson-Smith, paraprofessional at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was a resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Peggy Culpepper who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Culpepper was the mother of Martha Welch, retired teacher; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Culpepper was a resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Connie Wilson Cryer who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cryer was a former cook at Pickering High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cryer was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their condolences to the family of Lynn Edward Martin who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Martin was a retired warehouseman at the Central Office; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Martin was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
