THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., FORT POLK WARRIOR COMMUNITY CENTER, FORT POLK, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT GLEASON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jimmy Funderburk, Assistant Superintendent.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Colonel Shuck.
BG Hickman addressed the Board.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the May 7, 2013 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to receive bids for copier paper. On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to accept the low bid from Uni-Source for $30.80 per case if specifications are met.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by Jerry Jeane, the Board voted to receive bids for janitorial/cafeteria supplies. After recommendation from Mr. Tim Ward, and on motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to accept the lowest bid for all cafeteria and janitorial supplies if specifications are met.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Jerry Jeane, the Board voted to receive bids for bread, milk and juice. On recommendation of Mr. Tim Ward, and on motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Gerald Cooley, the Board voted to accept the low bid from Mid-State Marketing for milk and juice. On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to accept the bid from Flower Baking Company for bread.
On motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by Jerry Jeane, the Board voted to receive bids for an activity bus for Leesville High School. Mr. Ward informed the Board that only one bid was received from Ross Bus Sales and it included the bus for Leesville High and Rosepine High. Mr. Pynes amended his motion to include Rosepine High School and this motion was seconded by John Blankenbaker. Ross Bus Sales bid $47,500.00 for the two buses with no air conditioning and $49,500.00 for the two buses with air conditioning. On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to take this bid under advisement.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Gerald Cooley, the Board voted to receive bids for bleachers for Evans High School. On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to take the bids under advisement.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Jerry Jeane, Agenda Item #9 was revised to read “used tractor” instead of “used bus” and on motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to receive bids to sell the used tractor at Anacoco Elementary. No bids were received and on motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to allow Superintendent Self, Tim Ward, and the principal at Anacoco Elementary School to dispose of the used tractor for a minimum amount of $500.00.
In other business, Assistant Superintendent Jimmy Funderburk thanked BG Hickman, Colonel Shuck and the staff at Fort Polk for their hospitality and their support.
Assistant Superintendent Funderburk reminded Board members of the 5:00PM Board meeting on Tuesday, June 11th and the Retiree Reception at 4:30PM.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Gordon Williamson who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson was the son of Douglas Williamson, former teacher, principal, and coach at Simpson High School and he was also the brother-in-law of Gerald Cooley, District Eight Board Member; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson was a resident of Little Rock, Arkansas, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
