THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON APRIL 16, 2013 AT 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT GLEASON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Robert Pynes.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the April 11, 2013 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve the following termination:

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Richard Schwartz, the Board voted to accept the following retirements:

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to approve architectural services for South Polk Elementary School. Superintendent Self stated that one proposal was received from Yeager, Watson, and Associates and this firm was unanimously approved for the architectural services at South Polk Elementary School.
Mr. Gerald Cooley reported that the Transportation Committee had met and President Gleason called for nominations for Chairperson of the Committee. On nomination of Gerald Cooley by Michael Perkins, the Committee unanimously named Gerald Cooley as Chairman. Mr. Cooley stated that the Transportation Committee recommended purchasing eleven buses that were that were coming off lease this summer and on motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to purchase these eleven buses. Maintenance on the buses was discussed and no action was taken.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, Superintendent Self reminded Board members of the student recognition at both of the May Board meetings. Superintendent Self also noted that the public meeting at the Pentecostal Church on April 15th was very positive and was well attended.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Clifford Zeno who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Zeno was the uncle of Dawana Smith, paraprofessional at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Zeno was a resident of Leesville and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Demetrius Ray Thomas who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was the nephew of Polly Gilbert, paraprofessional at East Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was a 2010 graduate of Leesville High School and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I ON
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their condolences to the family of Douglas Crump who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Crump was the step-father of Curtis Clay, Headstart Director; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Crump was a resident of Mansfield, Louisiana and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, on motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
