THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT GLEASON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Gerald Cooley.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gerald Cooley.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the February 12, 2013 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Mrs. Anne Smith, Elementary Curriculum Director, reported on the 2013 Spring Testing Schedule.
Mr. Perkins reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met. Mr. Michael Perkins chaired the Committee in the absence of Mr. Mel Harris. Raymond Jones, Assistant Principal at Leesville High School, discussed the Driver’s Education Program and requested an increase in student fees for Driver’s Education in the amount of $25.00. On motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the increase and the fee for Driver’s Education at Leesville High School will be $300.00.
In other business, Superintendent Self stated that a Request for Qualifications – Professional Design Services, Architectural and Engineering for South Polk Elementary would be advertised for beginning next week.
Superintendent Self also scheduled a District 1/6 meeting for Tuesday, March 12th at 4:00PM.
On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Louise Keel who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Keel was the mother of Ulita Watson, Principal at Evans High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Keel was a resident of Merryville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O LU T I ON
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Joy Tucker who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Tucker was a retired librarian with over thirty years of service at Leesville Jr. High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Tucker was a longtime resident of Leesville before moving to Fort Worth and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Terry Haley who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Haley was the husband of Catherine Haley, teacher at Evans High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Haley was a resident of Anacoco and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Donald Seigler who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Seigler was the father of Wanda Pynes, bus driver and the father-in-law of Robert Pynes Jr., District One Board Member; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Seigler was a long time resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, on behalf of the entire Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I ON
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Siphronia Jeane who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jeane was the mother of Jerry Jeane, District Two Board Member, and the mother-in-law of Pam Jeane, teacher at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jeane was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
