THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Jerry L. Jeane.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jerry L. Jeane.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the November 8, 2012 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Curtis Clay presented the monthly Headstart Summary and discussed Headstart policies and procedures. On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the following Headstart policies and procedures:

Board President Michael Perkins asked for nominations for Board President and on nomination by Doug Brandon of Randi Gleason, the Board voted unanimously to elect Randi Gleason as President of the Vernon Parish School Board for 2013. On nomination by Gerald Cooley of John Blankenbaker, the Board voted unanimously to elect John Blankenbaker as Vice-President of the Vernon Parish School Board for 2013.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to receive bids for baseball bleachers for Pitkin High School. Bids were received as follows:
Flynn Building Specialties $72,110.00
Southern Bleacher Company $58,980
After discussion and on motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to take these bids under advisement.
Kerry Laster, David Simmons, Ellyn McKinney, and Kristina Bradford, from the Louisiana Department of Education gave an overview of Accountability Changes.
Mel Harris reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and discussed the teacher salary schedule and the stipends that must be earned annually. This schedule is pending further review.
It was also reported that beginning with the next new hire of a bus aide, their salary would be equal to that of a lease bus driver.
The Committee also recommended a $750 stipend for all employees and on motion of Mel Harris, seconded by the Board, the Board voted unanimously to approve this stipend.
Mr. Harris also reported that Superintendent Self and the Committee recommended approval of a revised salary schedule for technology personnel. On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Gerald Cooley, the Board unanimously voted to approve the revised salary schedule.
In other business, Superintendent Self reminded Board members of the Board meeting on December 11th at 5:00PM and of the Finance Committee meeting at 4:00PM.
On motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Brenda Robertson who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Robertson was the mother-in- law of Karen Robertson, teacher at East Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Robertson was a lifelong resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board members wish to express their sympathy to the family of Charles Moore who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore was a resident of Leesville and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their condolences to the family of Thomas “Tommy” Nolde who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nolde was an avid supporter of the Summer League Youth Association; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Nolde was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Frances Gordon who recently passed away;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Gordon was the mother of Melissa Koonce, teacher at Pickering High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Gordon was a graduate of Leesville High School, a longtime resident of Vernon Parish, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Marie Prewitt who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Prewitt was the grandmother of Sherrie Sterling, teacher at Hornbeck High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Prewitt was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Michael Perkins, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
