THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Doug Brandon.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Doug Brandon.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the September 11, 2012 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Kim Nugent, Curriculum Supervisor, discussed the Pupil Progression Plan and noted the changes made. After discussion, and on motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to approve the Pupil Progression Plan as written. Mr. Mike Perkins voted NAY to this motion.
Superintendent Self discussed the revised Reduction of Personnel Policy (GBNA). On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board unanimously voted to approve the revised Reduction of Personnel Policy.
On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Richard Schwartz, the Board voted to receive bids for a used activity bus at Anacoco High School.
Bids were received as follows:
Bryan Cook Repair $1653.50
A.V. Davis $1550.00
On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Richard Schwartz, the Board voted to take these bids under advisement.
In other business, Superintendent Self called for a Curriculum Committee meeting on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 9:00AM. Superintendent Self also reported that State Superintendent John White visited Leesville Jr. High on Tuesday and observed Will Endris’ Science Class. Mr. White also toured the school.
On motion of Richard Schwartz for John Blankenbaker, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Doris Simmons who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Simmons was a retired cook at Rosepine High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Simmons was a longtime resident of Rosepine and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Leffie Westbrook who recently passed away;
WHEREAS, Mr. Westbrook was the father of Terri Whiddon, teacher at Hornbeck High School and the father-in-law of Joey Whiddon, curriculum supervisor at the central office; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Westbrook was a longtime resident of Hornbeck and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Tossye Lee Eaves who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Eaves was a retired teacher at Evans High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs Eaves was a resident of Merryville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Gene Stephens who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stephens was the husband of former teacher Patsy Stephens and the uncle of Joe Pope, retired administrator at the central office; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stephens was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution n be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I ON
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Ruth Woodle who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Woodle was a former bus driver and was the wife of former bus driver Hoyt Woodle; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Woodle was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish, an avid supporter of our schools, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
