THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, ON MAY 8, 2012 AT 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Steve Woods.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve Woods.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Gerald Cooley, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of May 3, 2012.
Students from the following schools were recognized and congratulated by the Board for their achievement(s) at State Competition: Anacoco High, Anacoco Elementary, Hornbeck High, Hicks High, Pickering Elementary, Pickering High, Evans High, Pitkin High, Leesville High and Simpson High.
On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to approve the following resignations:

Rocheleau, Beverly, sped aide/VMS
Spencer, Terrell, teacher/PES
On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to approve the following sabbatical leave requests:

Sellers, Sarah, teacher/Evans-PROFESSIONAL SABB-8-7-12/5-24/13

On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve the following new employee:
Bass, Emily, cook/PES-replacing Joan Menard (retired)
On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to approve the following employee transfer:
Toney, Carolyn, secretary/LHS-trns to CO maintenance-replacing Janet Farris (retired)
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to accept the following employee retirements:
Hood, Martha, librarian/SPE
Garess, Nita, cook/PHS
Strickland, Linda, cook/AES
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to receive bids for refurbished desktop computers. Four bids were submitted and on motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to accept the low bid from CDI for the model #740 desktop computers for $189.74 providing that the bid meets all specifications.
On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to advertise for copier paper.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to advertise for an elementary curriculum/technology supervisor.
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, Superintendent Self reminded Board members that Mr. Jon Guice, Hammonds and Sills, will be here after the June 12th Board meeting to discuss the new laws recently passed by the State of Louisiana.
On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Earnest Alton Fox who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Fox was the husband of Elaine Fox, retired paraprofessional at Evans High School, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Fox was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Saundra Brumley who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Brumley was the mother of Debra O’Neal, bus driver at North Polk Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Brumley was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, on motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
