THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Robert Pynes.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.

 

On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the February 7, 2012 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

 

Ralph Kimball, representative of Taylor & Sons Insurance, recognized Cindy Allison, paraprofessional at East Leesville Elementary School, as Vernon Parish School Board Employee of The Month.  Ms. Allison was presented a plaque and gift card and congratulated by the Board.

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Robert Pynes, the Board voted to authorize Superintendent Self to request and sign all Federal Funding P.L. 81-874 for the Vernon Parish School Board.

 

On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Jerry Jeane, the Board voted to name Leigh Lansdale as Assistant Principal at Pickering Elementary School.

 

Mel Harris reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for March and would make their recommendation to the Board on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.  Board members were reminded of the Naming Lists to be approved in April.

 

In other business, Superintendent Self reminded Board members of the Insurance/Finance Committee meeting at 3:30 and the Transportation Committee meeting at 4:15 on Tuesday, March 13th.  Superintendent Self also congratulated the Anacoco High and Pickering High School Girl’s Basketball Teams for advancing to the Semi-Finals.

 

Vernon Travis discussed the resolutions from the NSBA and LSBA Conferences and how they would affect our school system.  A meeting will be held Thursday at 10:00AM for any Board member wishing to serve on a committee to discuss the resolutions and issues and ways to get this information to our local elected officials.

 

On motion of Mike Perkins, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their condolences to the family of Reginald Crockett Lambright who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Lambright was a retired teacher/coach from Pitkin High School, and the father of Kevin Lambright, Principal at Pitkin High School; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Lambright was a lifelong resident of Pitkin, an avid supporter of Pitkin High School and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their sympathy to the family of Damion James Louvier who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Damion was a 10th grader at Pickering High School; and

                WHEREAS, Damion was a resident of Leesville and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Mike Perkins, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express their sympathy to the family of Obie Lee Dickens who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mrs. Dickens was a retired custodian at Pitkin High School; and

                WHEREAS, Mrs. Dickens was a lifelong resident of Pitkin and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Richard Schwartz, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express their condolences to the family of Miriam Kay who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mrs. Kay was a retired bus driver for the Vernon Parish School Schools; and

                WHEREAS, Mrs. Kay was the mother of Stacy Kay Walters, the sister of Richard Chavez, both former employees, and the aunt of Mike Kay, Principal at Evans High School; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Kay was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Virniel Walker Jr. who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Walker was the brother-in-law of Cedric Wilson, former bus driver for the Vernon Parish Schools; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Walker was a native of Leesville and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Bina Flowers who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Ms. Flowers was the niece of Phyllis Monroe, cafeteria manager at Simpson High School; and

                WHEREAS, Ms. Flowers was a resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

There being no further business, and on motion of Mike Perkins, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
