THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M. NOVEMBER 3, 2011 AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT TRAVIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Steve Woods.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve Woods.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the October 11, 2011 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Wayne Ryan, representative from Taylor and Sons, presented Employee of The Month to Keith Richardson, custodian at Anacoco Elementary School. Mr. Richardson was congratulated by the Board and was presented a plaque, gift card, and pin for his dedication and hard work.
Mrs. Shirley Smith and Mr. Logan Morris, representatives of the Vernon Arts Council, addressed the Board. Mrs. Smith stated that the goal of the Vernon Arts Council was to support the arts everywhere. The Council has sponsored free performances for many of the schools with plans for more. Mr. Morris mentioned the Summer Arts Program and they both thanked the Board for their support.
Curtis Clay, Headstart Director, discussed the November Policy Council Meeting and the procedures and reports that will be on the Agenda November 8th for approval.
Superintendent Self presented the 2012 Board Meeting Dates to Board Members for discussion. The 2012 Board Meeting Dates will be placed on the Agenda for November 8th for approval.
Mike Perkins reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for November and would make its recommendation to the Board on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
In other business, Superintendent Self reminded Board members of the Transportation Committee meeting on Tuesday at 8:15AM and the Headstart Policy Training Session at 9:00AM. Randi Gleason reported that the Leesville High School Band recently received nine trophies at the DeRidder Marching Festival. They received superior ratings, Best in Class Awards, and Sweepstakes Trophy. John Blankenbaker also noted that Rosepine High School Band also excelled at the Deridder Marching Festival with superior ratings, Most Outstanding Colorguard, Most Outstanding Drum Major, and Most Outstanding Band. These bands are to be commended for their outstanding accomplishments and hard work.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of LaVon Kay who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kay was the mother-in-law of Nancy and Miriam Kay, and the grandmother of Mike, Tammy and Melissa Kay; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kay was a longtime resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Jimmy Charles “Chuck” Bosley who recently passed away;
WHEREAS, Mr. Bosley was the brother of Johnny Bosley, teacher at Rosepine High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bosley was a resident of Ragley, a graduate of Rosepine High School, and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gerald Cooley, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School take this means to express their condolences to the family of Betty Roberts who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roberts was the mother-in-law of Rhonda Roberts, librarian at Hicks High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roberts was a resident of New Llano and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
