THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, ON AUGUST 9, 2011 AT 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT TRAVIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by Beryl Ford.

On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of August 4, 2011.

On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to accept the following employee retirements:

On motion of Jerry Jeane, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to approve the Personnel Evaluation Plan.
On motion of Doug Brandon, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to advertise for an activity bus for Leesville High School.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by John Blankenbaker, the Board voted to adopt a resolution authorizing the debt and issuance debt and issuance of Six Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($650,000) of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2011, of Ward Three Wardwide School District No. 160 of Vernon Parish, Louisiana; prescribing the form, terms and conditions of said Bonds; designating the date, denomination and place of payment of said Bonds; providing for the payment thereof in principal and interest; and providing for other matters in connection therewith.
Mrs. Ford reported that the Curriculum Committee had met and discussed changes in the Pupil Progression Plan. As required, the Pupil Progression Plan will be on display at the Board Office for thirty days. Pam Andis discussed STEM/CTE and the use of technology in the classrooms. Anne Smith discussed the Professional Development Plan which ensures that all professional development needs of the district are addressed.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to approve the Professional Development Plan. On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by the Board, the Board approved the Pupil Progression Plan.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Mike Perkins, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of John Blankenbaker, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, Superintendent Self noted that John Blankenbaker had volunteered to serve on the HeadStart Policy Council as a representative for the Vernon Parish School Board. Superintendent Self also reminded Board members of the tour of South Polk Elementary School after the meeting to view the renovations.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their condolences to the family of Velma Nabors who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Nabors was the mother of Katrina Nabors, secretary at South Polk Elementary and the sister of Shirley Orange, retired teacher; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Nabors was a resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to offer their condolences to the family of Overton Burns who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Burns was a graduate of Leesville High School, and an avid supporter of the schools; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Burns was a lifelong resident of Leesville and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
