THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION AT 10:00 A.M. JUNE 14, 2011 AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT TRAVIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

BERYL FORD, VICE-PRESIDENT
RANDI GLEASON
MEL HARRIS
DOUG BRANDON
JERRY JEANE
MIKE PERKINS
RANDY MARTIN
STEVE WOODS

ABSENT: ROBERT PYNES - OUT OF TOWN
JOHN BLANKENBAKER - BUSINESS OBLIGATION
COLONEL FRANCIS BURNS - MILITARY OBLIGATION
There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Randi Gleason.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randi Gleason.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board voted to reject all bids for Leesville High School construction and renovation. After discussion and recommendations, President Travis asked for a motion based on the architect’s recommendation to defer action until July 7, 2011 and no motion was made. The following roll call vote was taken to reject all bids as all were over budget:
YEAS: Randi Gleason, Mel Harris, Steve Woods, Jerry Jeane, Randy Martin, Mike Perkins, Gerald Cooley
NAYS: Doug Brandon, Beryl Ford, Vernon Travis
ABSENT: Robert Pynes, John Blankenbaker
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Doug Brandon, the Board authorized permission to re-bid Leesville High School construction and renovation. This was a unanimous vote.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to authorize Yeager, Watson, and Associates to revise the project to within budget. This was a unanimous vote.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to add an Agenda Item at the request of Superintendent Self. Doug Brandon voted NAY to this motion.
This Agenda Item required no vote. Tim Ward, Finance Director, reported on the Sales Tax Collections for 2010-2011 and stated that the sales tax checks would be mailed on June 23, 2011. Total collections were down 1.4% from last year.
There being no further business, and on motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
