THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, ON OCTOBER 12, 2010 AT 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. VICE-PRESIDENT TRAVIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by Gaye McKee.

On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of

On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to accept the following employee retirements:

On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to advertise for bids for an activity bus for Evans High School.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to advertise for principal at Simpson High School.
Randi Gleason reported that the Headstart Policy Council had met and elected officers for the year. Parental involvement was good and there was no other business.
On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, Superintendent Self shared the District and School Performance Scores with Board members. Vernon Parish advanced 2.9 points and is currently 5th in the State of Louisiana. Superintendent Self praised the teaching staff and administrators as well as parental support for this achievement.
Colonel Burns stated that the 4/10 deployment was ongoing and also that the traffic on Highway 28 could possibly be heavy from October 16-25 due to military maneuvers. Colonel Burns also noted that Military Retiree Appreciation Day is October 22, 2010.
Beryl Ford scheduled a Curriculum Committee meeting for November 9th at 9:00AM.
On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Geraldine Owens Mann who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mann was the mother of Jane Mortensen, retired paraprofessional at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs, Mann was a longtime resident of Vernon Parish and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Sue Toney who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Toney was a retired cook at East Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Toney was a lifelong resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOVLED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
