THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON AUGUST 10, 2010 AT 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA.  PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by Reverend E. J. Bradshaw.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randy Martin.

 

On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of August 5, 2010.

 

Superintendent Self recognized Mrs. Linda Hudgens, Elementary Teacher of the Year for Vernon Parish.  Mrs. Hudgens is a teacher at West Leesville Elementary School.

On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to accept the following employee retirements:

On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to receive bids to sell two used buses at Pickering High School.  No bids were received on these two buses and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to allow the school principal and Superintendent Self to dispose of these buses.

 

On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to advertise for bids to sell a used activity bus at Anacoco High School.

 

Mrs. Beryl Ford reported that the Headstart enrollment of 270 was approved by the Dallas Office.  Headstart will also have a Triennial Monitoring Review during the 2010-2011 school year.

 

On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.

 

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.

 

In other business, Mrs. Ford reported that the Curriculum Committee had met.  Mr. Roger Rolon, principal at the Optional School, met with the Committee and requested that the name for the Optional School be changed.   A  Committee will be selected to discuss this request further.  Mr. Rolon also updated the Board members on the Optional School and its enrollment.

 

Mrs. Ford reported that Mrs. Anne Smith gave updates on STEM/CTE, the Professional Development Plan, and the Pupil Progression Plan.  On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by

 

Gaye McKee, the Board approved the Professional Development Plan.  On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board approved the Pupil Progression Plan.

Superintendent Self thanked the Curriculum Department for their diligent work and dedication to the students of Vernon Parish.

President Mike Perkins requested that Paul Poe, Principal at the Gates Program, give an update at the next Curriculum Committee meeting.

 

There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
