THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. VICE-PRESIDENT TRAVIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jimmy Funderburk, Assistant Superintendent.
The meeting was opened in prayer by .
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve Woods.
On motion of , seconded by , the Board voted to approve the minutes of the April 15, 2010 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Taylor and Sons recognized Gwen Stephens as Employee of the Month. Ms. Stephens is a paraprofessional at Vernon Middle School and was presented a plaque and gift card for her hard work and dedication.
Mr. Tom Neubert recognized the school nurses for Nurse’s Week and thanked them for all their hard work.
Students from the following schools were recognized and congratulated for their achievements:
West Leesville Elementary - Rosepine High - Simpson High - Vernon Middle
On motion of , seconded by , the Board voted to approve the Food Service Quotation Calendar.
On motion of , seconded by , the Board voted to change the May 11, 2010 Board meeting to May 13, 2010.
Mark Smith reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for May and will make its recommendation to the full Board on Thursday, May 13, 2010.
In other business
On motion of , seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board records with sadness the recent death of Myrtle Mae Mitcham, retired teacher; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mitcham taught in Vernon Parish for over thirty years and was a loyal and dedicated employee; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mitcham ws a longtime resident of Leesville and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Norman Blackwell who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Blackwell was the father of Brenda Owens, teacher at Hornbeck High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Blackwell was a resident of Anacoco and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
