THE VERNON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON MARCH 8, 2010 AT 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT PERKINS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Robert Pynes.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the March 9, 2010 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

Ralph Kimball with Taylor and Sons recognized Barbara Zimmerman as Employee of the Month. Ms. Zimmerman is an office paraprofessional at South Polk Elementary. The Board congratulated Mrs. Zimmerman for her dedication and hard work.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to change the location of the June 3, 2010 Board meeting to Fort Polk.
On motion of Kay Wilbanks, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to advertise for bids to sell a 1985 International Warehouse Truck with a lift.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to accept and record Vernon Parish School Board Members ACT 380 Requirements for 2009.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to advertise for bids for improvements at Orange School District (Anacoco Schools).
On motion of Kay Wilbanks, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to advertise for bids for improvements at South Polk Elementary.
Mark Smith reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for April 2010 and would make its recommendation to the Board on April 15, 2010.
In other business, Superintendent Self stated that the proposed school calendar for 2010-2011 and the employee naming lists were in their folders to review. Approval for both of these items will be on the April 15th Agenda. Curtis Clay will also address the Board on Thursday regarding Headstart. Superintendent Self discussed the Military & Family Life Consultants assigned to North Polk, South Polk, Pickering Elementary, Vernon Middle, Leesville Jr. High, and Leesville High School. These consultants will help military families through cycles of deployment and reintegration by providing non-medical, short-term counseling. The MFLC contract is managed by the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy at no cost to the Board.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their condolences to the family of Roberta Fayson who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Fayson was the mother of Alton Bailey, Headstart teacher at North Polk Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Fayson was a resident of Orlando, Florida and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of June Foshee Hill who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hill was the sister of Helen Fontenot, former cook and custodian at Evans High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hill was a former resident of Rosepine and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.
There being no further business, and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
