THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON JULY 14, 2009 AT 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT WOODS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by Reverend Edgar Evans.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randy Martin.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of July 9, 2009.
On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to approve the following resignations:

On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve the following employee retirements:

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve the Vernon Parish Wellness Plan.
On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Mike Perkins, the Board voted to accept Superintendent Self’s recommendation for an employee grievance.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to accept the low bid from Sterling Computer Products for printer refills.
Mark Smith made a motion to continue to take the bid for LCD projectors and ceiling mounts under advisement and after some discussion, Mr. Smith withdrew his motion.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to accept the low bid from Troxell for LCD projectors and ceiling mounts. Mark Smith voted nay to accept the low bid.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, Vernon Travis reported that the Goals and Objectives Committee had met and will present the revised Goals and Objectives to the Board in August.
Beryl Ford reminded the Board members of the Curriculum Committee on August 11th at 8:30AM.
On motion of Vernon Travis for Ricky Reese, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to advertise for bids to sell a 1986 Chevrolet bus at Hornbeck High School.
Superintendent Self reminded the Board members of the ”r;Meet The Principals” at Fort Polk on August 3rd at 4:00PM.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Stancil Cleveland who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cleveland was a former employee of the Vernon Parish School Board; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cleveland was the husband of Joy Cleveland, retired bus driver, and the father of Tammy Littleton, Sherry Cryer, Rita Cleveland, Mary Thomas, Vickie Sketoe, and Stacie Craft; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cleveland was a lifelong resident of Leesville/Vernon Parish and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Harold Harris who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harris was the husband of Bobbie Harris, retired teacher; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harris was a longtime resident of Rosepine and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of James Fred Bricker who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bricker was a native of Leesville, a Leesville High School graduate, and an avid sports supporter; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bricker retired from a life-long career of service at Fort Polk and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
