THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION ON JULY 9, 2009, 10:00 A.M., 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA. PRESIDENT WOODS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND WELCOMED COLONEL FRANCIS BURNS TO THE MEETING. ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Reverend E .J. Bradshaw.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mel Harris.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the June 9, 2009 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.
Superintendent Self recognized Pickering Elementary School and West Leesville Elementary School for earning the distinction of being named High-Performing, High Poverty schools. These schools were two of twenty from Louisiana that were honored recently in Baton Rouge.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to receive bids for propane for Evans, Hicks, and Hornbeck Schools. One bid was received as follows:
AmeriGas $1.45.9 per gallon
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to accept the bid from AmeriGas.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to receive bids for printer refills. Bids were received from GOV Connections and Sterling Computer Products. On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to take these bids under advisement.
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to receive bids for LCD projectors and ceiling mounts. Bids were received as follows:

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to take these bids under advisement.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to advertise for bids for computer and projector cables
On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to name an assistant principal at East Leesville Elementary. On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Cindy Teasley as assistant principal at East Leesville Elementary School.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name an assistant principal at Hornbeck High School. On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Cecil Richmond as assistant principal at Hornbeck High School.
On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Robert Pynes, the Board voted to name an assistant principal at Leesville High School. On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Raymond Jones as assistant principal at Leesville High School.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name an assistant principal at Pickering High School. On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to name Dana Donaldson as assistant principal at Pickering High School.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to name an assistant principal at Rosepine High School. On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to name Lisa Lohman as assistant principal at Rosepine High School.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name an assistant principal at Vernon Middle School. On recommendation of Superintendent Self and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to name Roger Atkins as assistant principal at Vernon Middle School.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to receive an employee grievance.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to adopt the following resolution for the Rapides Foundation:
STATE OF LOUISIANA
PARISH OF VERNON
On the 9th day of July, 2009, at a meeting of the School Board of Vernon Parish held in the City of Leesville, Louisiana, a quorum of Board Members present, the following action was taken:
It was duly moved and seconded that the following resolution be adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED that the School Board of Vernon Parish does hereby authorize the Superintendent, on terms and conditions he/she may deem advisable, to negotiate and execute grants or contracts from The Rapides Foundation on behalf of the School Board named herein, and further hereby authorize the Superintendent and grant the power and authority to do all things necessary to implement, maintain, amend or renew said documents.
The above resolution was passed by a majority of those present and voting in accordance with the by-laws and policies of the said School Board.

I certify that the above and foregoing constitutes a true and correct record of a resolution adopted by the Vernon Parish School Board, Leesville, Louisiana, at its regular meeting held on the 9th day of July, 2009.
Secretary
Mark Smith reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for July and would make its recommendation to the Board at the July 14, 2009 Board meeting. Mr. Smith reported that the Curriculum Committee also gave their approval to implement instructional coaches at participating schools.
In other business, Vernon Travis reminded Board members of the Goals and Objectives Committee meeting on Tuesday, July 14th at 9:00AM. Beryl Ford scheduled a Curriculum Committee on August 11, 2009 at 8:30AM.
Superintendent Self reminded Board members of ”r;Meet the Principal” at Fort Polk on August 3rd at 4:00PM. Superintendent Self also stated that Vernon Parish Schools had received the DOD Grant.

There being no further business, and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
