THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR

SESSION AT 10:00 A.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT

WOODS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Reverend Jerry Penfield.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.

 

Mr. Jackie D. Self was sworn in as Superintendent of the Vernon Parish School Board by Judge Vernon Clark.

 

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Ricky Reese, the Board voted to delete Agenda Item #9 from the Agenda.

 

On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 9, 2009 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

 

On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name The Leesville Daily Leader as the official journal of the Vernon Parish School Board.

 

On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to name Board Committees for 2009.

On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to authorize Superintendent Self to request and sign all Federal Funding, P.L. 81-874 for the Vernon Parish School Board.

 

 On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to receive bids for an activity bus for Leesville High School. One bid was received as follows:

 

Ross Bus Sales          $69,313.00

 

On motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to accept the bid from Ross Bus Sales in the amount of $69,313.00.

 

 On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to adopt a resolution authorizing the advertising for separate sealed bids for the purchase of a Seventy-Five Thousand Dollar ($75,000) portion, and a Four Hundred Twenty Five Thousand Dollar ($425,000) portion of an issue of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000) of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2009A, of Orange School District No. 145 of Vernon Parish, Louisiana, authorized at an election held on November 4, 2008, and providing for other matters in connection therewith.

 

 Presentations for Special Education Supervisor were made by the following persons:

Naming for the Special Education Supervisor (replacing Dottie Neugebauer) will be made on Tuesday, January 13, 2009.

 

Gene Haymon reported that the Insurance Committee had met and discussed the 403B Plan Document.  No action was taken and approval of this document will be on the Agenda for Tuesday, January 13, 2009.

 

Mark Smith reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for January and would make its recommendation to the Board at the January 13, 2009 Board meeting.

 

There was no other business.

 

On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their condolences to the family of Velma Rae Lehto who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Lehto was the mother of Johnna Husarek, retired teacher, and the mother-in-law of Cora Lehto, teacher at Rosepine Elementary School; and

            WHEREAS, Mrs. Lehto was a resident was a resident of Rosepine and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

            WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their condolences to the family of James Edwards, Sr. who recently passed away; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards was the brother of Willie Edwards, and the uncle of Lillie Allen, Deborah Edwards, and Dianetta Maxie; and

            WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards was a longtime resident of Leesville and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family; now

            BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness.
