THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, OCTOBER 7, 2008, AT 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT FORD CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by John Burns.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randy Martin.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of October 2, 2008.
Taylor and Sons presented Employee of the Month to Wendell Smith, custodian at Evans High School. The Board congratulated Mr. Smith for all his hard work and his dedication to the school, community, and children.
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board to approve the following resignation:

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to adopt the mandated policy changes and/or additions that were discussed at the October 2, 2008 Board meeting. (Policies are printed in the October 2, 2008 Board minutes.)
Mike Perkins reported that the Curriculum Committee had met at 8:00AM on this date. Dottie Neugebauer and Anne Smith discussed special education concerns and RTI. The meeting was very informative and no action was required.
Gene Haymon reported that the Insurance Committee had met at 9:00AM on this date. Mr. Haymon reported that the Curriculum Committee had recommended CPI for the third party administrator for our 403B Plan. On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Ricky Reese, the Board voted to name CPI represented by John Lenahan as the third party administrator. Mrs. McKee opposed this recommendation.
On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by John Burns, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, Mike Perkins scheduled a Curriculum Committee meeting for October 23, 2008 at 3:00PM and urged all Board members to attend. Superintendent Gillespie stated that the performance scores would be released on October 17, 2008.
There being no further business, and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
