THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, OCTOBER 9, 2007, AT, 10:00AM, 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA.
PRESIDENT REESE CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by Randy Martin.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Beryl Ford.
On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by James Armes, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of October 4, 2007.
Taylor and Sons recognized Danielle Hoffpauir, teacher at South Polk Elementary as "Employee of the Month". Ms. Hoffpauir was presented a plaque and gift card and congratulated by the Board for her dedication and hard work.

Mr. Lonnie Bewley discussed the General Obligation School Refunding Bonds for Ward Six and on motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board authorized the sale and issuance of $949,000 of General Obligation School Refunding Bonds, Series 2007, of Ward 6 Wardwide School District No. 161 of Vernon Parish, Louisiana.
R E S O L U T I O N
A resolution providing for the sale and issuance of Nine Hundred Forty-Nine Thousand Dollars ($949,000) of General Obligation School Refunding Bonds, Series 2007 (the "Bonds"), of Ward 6 Wardwide School District No. 161 of Vernon Parish, Louisiana (the "Issuer"); prescribing the form, fixing the details and providing for the rights of the owners thereof; providing for the payment of the principal and interest on the Bonds and the application of the proceeds thereof to the current refunding of the 2008 through 2021, inclusive, maturities of the General Obligation School Bonds, Series 1993, dated November 16, 1993, of the Issuer; making application to the Louisiana State Bond Commission; awarding the sale of the Bonds to the purchaser thereof; designating the paying agent for the Bonds; providing for the employment of bond counsel in connection with the sale and issuance of the Bonds; and providing for other matters in connection therewith.
Superintendent Gillespie reviewed SACS with the Board members and reminded them of the regular Board meeting on Wednesday, November 7th at 1:00PM. Superintendent Gillespie also reminded the Board members of the interview session on November 5th.
On motion of James Armes, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to advertise for a used bus for Districts 1/6.
Beryl Ford reported that the Curriculum Committee had met and discussed the Optional School and that Anne Smith had discussed workshops, curriculum calendar, school visits, and the schedule for Denise Wills(RTI). Barbara Stainback, principal of the Optional School, and John Farris addressed the Board in regard to goals and curriculum for the Optional School. Mrs. Ford also reminded the Board members of the Curriculum meeting on November 1, 2007 at 8:00AM. A Curriculum Committee meeting was also scheduled for December 11, 2007 at 3:00PM.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by James Armes, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, on motion of Mike Perkins, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to adopt a resolution for the Vernon Parish Police Jury to improve and maintain a bus turn-around on Droddy Road in Ward Five.
On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Pauline Smith who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was a retired school bus driver for Vernon Parish; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sadness.

Board, the meeting was adjourned.
