THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, APRIL 17, 2007, AT, 10:00AM, AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT REESE CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Dr. Cynthia Gillespie, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Gene Haymon.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of April 5, 2007.
Taylor and Sons recognized Willie Edwards, custodian at the Central Office, for the Employee Of The Month. Mr. Edwards was presented a plaque and gift certificate and Superintendent Gillespie expressed her appreciation for his dedication and hard work.
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Robert Pynes, the Board voted to approve the following resignations:

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to approve the following sabbatical leave requests:
Lettie Owens, teacher/RES-MED SABB-8-10-07/5-30-08
Virginia Hopewell, teacher/AES-PROF SABB-8-10-07/1-14-08(1st semester)
Essie Jarrell, teacher/Evans-MED SABB 8-13-07/5-30-08
Elizabeth Maricle, assistant principal/VMS-MED SABB 7-1-07/7-1-08
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Steve Woods, the Board voted to approve the following request to rescind a leave without pay:
Cassandra Landry, SPED aide/ELE-return to work 4-16-07
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Gene Haymon, the Board voted to approve the following list of new employees:
Towanda Willrodt, assistant principal/AHS-Retiree Return to Work
Terrance Williams, teacher/LHS-replacing Johnny Cryer(trns to optional school)
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve the following employee transfers:
Susan Haymon, LA4 Aide/AES-I/S trns to SPED Aide-replacing Cheryl Bryant(to LA4)
Tamra Fletcher, coordinator/PES-trns to NPE LA4 Coordinator-replacing Liz Descant (sick leave)
Johnny Cryer, teacher/LHS-trns to Optional School-new position due to overcrowding
Peter Sliman, bus driver/WLE-I/S trns from contract bus driver to leased bus driver (driver’s
choice)
On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board voted to approve the Staff Reduction Policy.
On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by Mike Perkins, the Board voted to approve the Vernon Parish School System Technology Plan.
On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by James Armes, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
