THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, DECEMBER 12, 2006, AT, 5:00PM, AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA.  PRESIDENT PYNES CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Dr. Cynthia Gillespie, Secretary of the Board.

The meeting was opened in prayer by John Burns.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mike Perkins.

On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by John Burns, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of December 7, 2006.

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board to approve the following resignations:

James Casey Johnson, teacher/coach/Pitkin

Tami Griffin, teacher/LHS

Agatha Brown, bus driver/Anacoco Elem.

Andrea Behan, bus aide/WLE

Shirley Orange, teacher/PHS

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Maxine Gunn, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve the following sabbatical leave request:

Maurna Thornton, teacher/Hornbeck-Medical SABB 1-16-07/6-1-07

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to approve the following request for a leave without pay:

William Fulks, custodian/Simpson-seeking other employment

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to approve the following employee transfers:

Bonnie Hicks, teacher/WLE-trns to NPE(school change only)

Olivia McKee, teacher/WLE-trns to Hornbeck(school change only)

Lynn Dell Pynes, teacher/WLE-trns to RES(school change only)

Jeanne Causey, custodian/Hicks-I/S trns to ½ time custodian & full time bus driver

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by John Burns, the Board voted to approve the following list of new employees:

Barbara Baker, cook/NPE-replaced Virginia Pollock(retired)

Bertha Hickman, cook/WLE-replacing Gladys Beasley(retired)

Flobell Canibano, cook/RES-new position

Alice Duncan, cook/ELE-Retiree Return to Work

On motion of Mike Perkins, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to accept the low bid from Bliss ($43,820.49) for Headstart playground surfacing material.

Superintendent Gillespie and the Board recognized Robert Pynes Jr., outgoing board president, and presented him with a plaque in appreciation of his service in 2006.

Superintendent Gillespie and Colonel Sage recognized Maxine Gunn and John Burns, outgoing board members, and thanked them for their dedication and service.  Mrs. Gunn and Mr. Burns were presented plaques, certificates, and a coin.

On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve budgets amendments related to personnel changes.

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Gene Haymon, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.

In other business, Superintendent Gillespie reminded the Board of the Salary/Personnel Committee meeting on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 8:00AM and of the Transportation Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 8:00AM.
