THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR
SESSION, JULY 11, 2006, AT, 10:00 A.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA.PRESIDENT PYNES CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by Mel Harris.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gene Haymon.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Gene Haymon, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of July 6, 2006.
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Maxine Gunn, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board to approve the following resignations:

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve the following employee transfers:

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie, and on motion by Gene Haymon, seconded by Maxine Gunn, the Board voted to approve the following employee termination:
Larry Summers - Maintenance
On motion of James Armes, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to advertise for bids for a used bus for District One.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Mike Perkins, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
In other business, Superintendent Gillespie stated new pictures of the Board would be taken on August 3, 2006.
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie, and on motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to end transfer requests effective July 20, 2006.
Jackie Self discussed the mandate by the Red Cross and Homeland Security regarding our schools being used as shelters.
President Pynes called for a Curriculum Committee meeting on August 8, 2006 at 9:00AM to discuss internet usage within the school system.
On motion of Maxine Gunn, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sympathy to the family of Birdie Lee Mallet who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mallet was the mother of Foster Thomas, and the mother-in-law of Patricia Thomas, Jacqueline Thomas, and Nita Mallet, all former employees of the Vernon Parish School Board; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mallet was a longtime resident of Leesville and had recently lived in the Dallas area and will be sadly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to her family at this time of sorrow.
There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
