THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION JANUARY 5, 2006 AT 10:00 A.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LOUISIANA.  PRESIDENT PYNES CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Dr. Cynthia Gillespie, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Randy Martin.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by B. R. Harvey.

 

On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by B. R. Harvey, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of December 6, 2005.

 

Kimie Bruce, Vernon Middle School PTO President, and Eric Butler, Vice-President, presented the Board with a check for $200.00 to aide students who were affected by the hurricanes.  This was a percentage of the money raised at the fall festival at Vernon Middle School.

 

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Betty Westerchil, the Board voted to approve the following Board committees for the 2006 calendar year:

On motion of Betty Westerchil, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve ”r;The Leesville Daily Leader” as the official journal for the Vernon Parish School Board.

 

On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Glennie Farris, the Board voted to approve the Change Order in the amount of $8,047.33 for Pickering Schools.

 

On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by B. R. Harvey, the Board voted to receive bids on two used buses at Rosepine High School.  No bids were received, and on motion by Gaye McKee, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to allow Tim Ward, Finance Director, and Steve Thomas, Principal at Rosepine High School, to dispose of the buses.

 

On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by Betty Westerchil, the Board voted to receive bids for bleachers at Hornbeck High School. Tim Ward, Finance Director, presented bids from Insight Incorporated for $55,590 and from DNA Associates for $63,149.  On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to award the bid for bleachers at Hornbeck High School to Insight Incorporated for $55,590 if they meet the specifications.

 

Mark Smith reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had reviewed the personnel changes for January and would make its recommendation to the Board at the Tuesday, January 10th Board meeting.

 

In other business, James Armes reminded the Board of the Transportation Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 10th at 8:30A.M.

 

Betty Westerchil reminded the Board of the Curriculum Committee meeting on February 7th at 8:30A.M.

 

On motion of Mark Smith for Philip Gunn, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board takes this means to express its sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Clarence Jones, of Leesville, who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was a dedicated bus driver for the Vernon Parish School System for eighteen and one-half years; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was a longtime resident of Leesville and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends; now               

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Jones and her family at this time of sorrow.

 

On motion of Betty Westerchil and Gene Haymon, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sincere condolences to the family of Mr. LeeRoy Gill, of Slagle, who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Gill was the father-in-law of Mrs. Melissa Gill, aide at East Leesville Elementary School, and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends;  now,

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Gill and her family at this time of sorrow.

 

On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their hearfelt sympathies to the family of Mr. Walter Hale, of Anacoco, who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mr. Hale was the husband of Betty Hale, teacher at the Vernon  Parish Optional School; and

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Hale and her family at this time of sadness.

 

On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Jewel McNeely, of Anacoco, who recently passed away; and

                WHEREAS, Mrs. McNeely was a former cook at Anacoco High School and the mother of Evelyn Haymon, bus driver at Anacoco High School; now

                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Ms. Haymon and her family at this time of sorrow.

 

There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
