THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, JULY 7, 2005 AT 10:00 A.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT HAYMON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Dr. Cynthia Gillespie, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Betty Westerchil.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robert Pynes, Jr.
On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Robert Pynes, Jr., the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of June 7, 2005.
On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Betty Westerchil, the Board voted to name central office employees for 2005-06
On motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by Gaye McKee the Board voted to name principals and assistant principals for 2005-06.
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to appoint Mike Morgan to a one-year, non-promotional position as assistant principal at Pickering High School.
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Betty Westerchil, the Board voted to name Linda Hagan, paraprofessional at Leesville Jr. High School, to the position of 12-month office aide at the Special Education Department.
On motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to award the bid for a bus at the Head Start Department to Ross Bus Sales, in the amount of $56,844.31.
On motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to advertise for bids for equipment and supplies for the LA 4 classrooms.
Mark Smith, Chairperson for the Salary/Personnel Committee, reported that the Committee had no action to report.
On motion of Robert Pynes, Jr., seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their heartfelt condolences to Mr. Gene Haymon, Board President in the resent death of his mother, Mrs. Etta Haymon; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haymon was also the mother of Mrs. Vera Miers, retired bus driver at Anacoco and Mrs. Nola Faye Goins, retired paraprofessional at West Leesville Elementary School, and was the mother-in law, grandmother, and aunt of several other current and former Vernon Parish School System employees, and;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Haymon was a native and lifelong resident of the Leesville area and she will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent, along with its deepest sympathies, to Mr. Haymon, Mrs. Goins and Mrs. Miers and their entire family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Betty Westerchil, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board were saddened by the recent death of two year old Brian Matthew Dowden of Leesville, who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Brian Matthew was the grandson of Ms. Alma Dowden, paraprofessional at Leesville Jr. High School; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board request a copy of this memorial resolution be sent, along with its heartfelt sympathies, to Vince and Martella Dowden and Mrs. Alma Dowden and their family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express its heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. William "Bill" O=Neal, of Leesville, who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. O'Neal was the father-in-law of Mrs. Debra O'Neal, bus driver at North Polk Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. O'Neal, a longtime resident of Leesville and a businessman, will be sadly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. O'Neal and her family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board records with sadness the recent death of Mrs. Martha Ann Allen, educational diagnostician at the central office Special Education Department; and
WHEREAS, Martha Ann was dedicated to helping the children and families she served and her positive attitude, friendly spirit, and her ready smile made her a favorite among her peers. She was a true credit to the educational profession; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent, along with its heartfelt condolences, to Martha Ann's husband, Mr. Van Allen, their children, and family at this time of sorrow.
There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
