THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, JUNE 7, 2005 AT 10:00 A.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT HAYMON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Dr. Cynthia Gillespie, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Mark Smith.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Betty Westerchil.

 

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Philip Gunn, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of June 7, 2005.

 

Superintendent Gillespie and the Board recognized retirees who had retired during the past year. Each retiree was presented with a Certification of Appreciation for his or her years of dedicated service to the school system.

 

Mr. Tom Neubert and Superintendent Gillespie recognized the doctors associated with Byrd Regional Hospital who donated their time and service to conduct Vernon Parish student athletic physicals at no cost to the school board. The doctors who were able to attend were: Doctors: Christina Lord, Kanchan Upadhyay, Mohammad Sarfraz, and Mohamed Shehata. Several other physicians who participated but were unable to attend the meeting and be recognized were Doctors: Jose Mathew, Reymond Meadaa, Teofilo Gozaine, Melissa Moss, Otis Biggs, Hussein Alammar, Dor Loi Dai Vo, Hanna Lubbos, Hermant Pande, Maggie Ramirez, Harold Pearson, Naila Khateeb, and Mirza Beg.

 

 Mr. Neubert also thanked Mr. Roger LeDoux and Mr. Sam Fulton for their assistance in coordinating the program.

 

Ron DeGray, GATES administrator and Superintendent Gillespie, recognized two GATES graduates and presented to each his GED certificate.

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to name David Lewis as principal at Simpson High School.

 

On motion of Philip Gunn , seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve budget amendments related to personnel changes.

 

On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

R E S O L U T I O N

                                WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sincere condolences to the family of Mr. W.T. Bolton, of Slagle, who recently passed away; and

                                WHEREAS, Mr. Bolton was a lifelong resident of Slagle and a retired bus driver. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends; now

                                BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mr. Bolton’s family at this time of sorrow.

 

On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Philip Gunn, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.

 

There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
